My 2014 GSA is due new tyres very soon, it is currently fitted with Continental Trail Attack 2 which have lasted a little over 6000 miles, the rear is virtually spent but the front may have 1 or 2 thousand more miles left in it, regardless I will change the pair, I am fairly sure I will go for Conti's again, I have no complaints about their grip/roadholding and they are not as noisy as some although they seem to generate a little more noise as they become worn close to the limit, having had the Cont's on my previous Twin Cam GSA they are my favoured tyre of the moment but want to see what else is out there and to see how they compare and what testers and reviewers think of them.
I'm a little surprised that my current rear tyre has lasted 6000miles on this bike given that the bike develops more power and is ridden in pretty much the same style as my previous Twin Cam, on the Twin Cam the rear tyre was usually shot at 5000miles, in terms of wear another nod in favour of keeping the Conti's.
Anyone have a link to an online tyre test ?

Did your Twin Cam have the MkI's as my understanding is that the relatively new MkII's are supposed to wear better?

No link for you I'm afraid but I'm on my first ever set of Contis on my 1190. They aren't a tyre I'd have considered TBH but am very pleased with them indeed and reckon that I'll be replacing them with the same when they need doing.

You might be right, I don't know when T/A 2's were released.

I've always run Trail Attacks on my GSA and wouldn't swap them for anything else

I'm thinking the same thing.......

+1 for conti Attack 2........Again would not swap for anything else to be honest.

I know what you mean I've found them to be a good tyre and I think they look "right" on the bike :thumby:

I've just fitted a pair of Continental TKC-70. They are simply the bits.

Road manners are excellent with good turn in and a proper "go faster you wimp" feedback. White lines over banding? What are they?
On gravel over tarmac (slippery stuff) the only way I know grip is limited is by the traction control making the engine stutter. They've not seen proper rain just yet but with that huge tread Im sure all will be fine.
Tyre noise - they sing but its not even slightly offensive.

Tyre Leader price was £165 delivered. I'm VERY happy. Thank you Continental made in Germany.

Good thread. I'm thinking of ditching the Anakees as they are loud, but the PR4's are too road orientated, and the TKC70's (from what I've read) seem to be ok, until you go over 100.

Will the TA's be any good for light offroad, gravel tracks and grass strewn roads, AND hooning around at speed?

Have a look at the dunlop trail smart tyres if you still insist on having that adventure bike style tyre. ()

The TR91's (which are in effect the trail smarts but a 2015 version) were brilliant tyres.

Bendy toy .... I'm sorry ... (I'm really sorry ..) but I just don't agree with you :D The TKC is not a road tyre and never will be. It'll bimble along quite happily, and it's pretty good on the dirt. But I just don't get why people put them on unless they are going off roading every other weekend. Why oh why would you put a TKC on your bike for tarmac ??

:thumb2

Have to second Giles... I know you are all happy with the contis (I was) but unless you actually try other stuff you never experience the differences between makes. I try to change around as much as possible for experience and variety. The Dunlops are v good, the contis are good, the PR4s are simply amazing in the damp / wet so please please try other stuff! I won't be going back to the contis now. The Dunlops and PR4s are my personal favourites and right at the bottom of the list are the anakee.

@ Giles: Are you talking about the TKC70 or 80? My guess is the 80 and Bendy Toy the 70!!!

Oooooo ... Ahhhhhhh ....... :D

Ha ha .... Huge apologies to Bendy Toy!! :P I read 80 !!

(But my point stands - why people put on 80's for road work is beyond me).

I've not tried the 70's (and to be honest probably wouldn't - I'm either going to go full road or full off road, and not something inbetween) but I've heard theyre very good.

Sorry ... my mistake .... :blast

I agree with you on the 80 for the road, but the 70 looks ok.

Im coming to the end on the Tourance Next on mine and not tried another tyre on this type of bike. Im not too impressed with them tbh but Im used to tyres like Supercorsa SP and Interact K2.

So I am having to base a lot of what to get on looks. :/

I read 80 !!

You must be wearing the same glasses when you spotted that 'Triumph'.....;)

My tyres this year are Conti Road Attack 2 Evo's; pure road tyre which have proven quickly too be superb in the wet & dry. They can handle the odd dusty trail but probably not for long...but I don't intend to use the GSA off road.

I'll second the Dunlop Trailsmarts. No complaints here in 2000 miles, and so much better than the original Anakee III.

New Cont Trail Attack 2's fitted today, played it safe The tyres that came off had over 6k on them which I consider ok and an improvement over tyre life on Conti T/A's on my previous twin cam, Nutty I have no idea how the T/A 2's will cope with a gravel track and have no desire to find out, as for Annakee 3's I wouldn't have them as a gift, seriously :augie

Why's that? Both my son and I have them on our WCs and neither of us has had any problems with them and we're not inclined to bimble. I had Trail Attack 1 fitted to a previous GS and I wasn't impressed, especially in the cold and damp.

Put some new RoadSmart2s on now that they're available in the 19 front. Looks like a damp weekend ahead so will get to try them heading down to Germany. Should be a big improvement on all the hybrid tyres given Ze Panzer is only used on road.

Keep us posted Steve, as most of the time I ride the same sort of roads as you.:thumb

I'm sure they should be ok on light gravel though.:augie:D
