Anyone know best (cheapest) place for tyres for sons bike?
Its a 2010 990 Advent.
Also, any recommendations on which tyres are good for road and touring use?
Jim

if its used for pure road work then the TA's are perfect, same rubber as the RA's but with more tread.

the MT21's induce a speed wobble over 85mph anyway and just below 100 its really interesting

Pirelli Scorpion MT90 is standard fitment and are absolutely excellent tyres.

Many people look for alternatives but I think many just return to the 'Scorps' as they are the best all round tyre for the bike.

I went from my Tourance shod GSA to the KTM and was apprehensive about what the Pirelli's would be like, I need not have worried, they are absolutely superb!

+1 scorps are best.........

Used a set of mitas e07s they lasted ages in fact still using them now. They cost £118 delivered. They are available from trelleborg tyres, the guy will advise you the best suited. I am nothing to do with them but just have had a good service.

Guys many thanks for all the info and advice.

Looks like Bank of Dad will be forced to make the purchase ;-)

Cest la vie

Happy New Year from home of hogmanay

I replaced a rear Scorpion on mine Wednesday past. Ride in ride out cost was £103 in Belfast, just to give you a ball park figure as to a decent price.

I did consider a Metzeler Karoo, but had no probes at all with the Pirelli, so just stayed with them.

Had TKC80 on mine.
Front still OK, back went after 3,000 miles.
Would use again, does make the front heavy to turn and a little wobbley at speeds (motorway).

Now have rail Attacks on each end, trip to Turkey and back, 6,000 miles, rear hardly shows any squaring off. Really good tyres for touring.

Useful info - thanks!

depends what you want to use the bike for - road trip touring fit pure road tyres, if you want to do a little bit of light off road on gravel the std scorps are fine, but PITA if its wet. the k60 superexplorers are a bit more agressive than the scorps and wear very well.

I want to use the bike for road use and green laning on gravel and mud trails suitable for larger bikes in all seasons but winter. When I had my F800GS(s) I used TKC80s in the spring/summer/autum for both road and off-road use and road tyres in the winter. I used the bike much more on roads than anything else with just occasional weekend off-road riding but the TKCs were good enough for this provided I kept the speed to legal limits. This year I want to explore my local green lanes a lot more so should use the KTM 990 Adv off road every couple of weeks.

ok forget the scorps.
i have seen many good reports of 908rr (but its a 140 section) and a tck80 or 606 front, MT21 fronts also not bad.
karoo rear gets mixed reports in mud and wears quickly

After due reflection, I am going to put on TKC80s because they did all I asked of them on rough roads and tracks (which wasn't that much :D ) and trusted them on wet tarmac with my F800GS and I found them to be reasonably long-lasting (5000 miles on the rear and a bit more on the front).
