Just done 5.5k on two European trips, 3k with the wife & camping gear and another 2k stacked up with luggage (Inc table, chairs etc).

All I can say is wowee, acres of grip, great in the wet, lasted long enough to be satisfied. The backs ready now, but the front still looks like new.

I'm on a GSA by the way, but can't imagine they'd be much different.

Needless to say I'll be sticking a new one on shortly.

Hope that helps...

Steve

Think I'm going to give these a go next...........they do look on the expensive side though - not aware of any deals.

I'm also due a new pair of hoops. I wanted to try the new Bridgestone BT023 but as yet they dont make a 19" front. (They will be doing I'm told but no-one knows quite "when")

So I'm also going to try the Roadsmarts. Cheapest I've been able to find so far fitted is £195 @ Woosters in Leeds. I've used them for years and they do a good job and have always been competitive on price

Feedback across the board is very positive for the Dunlops so we'll see :augie

Roadsmarts on my 1200GS... Feel great, no knobbly bits on the edges, stick like sh1t to the proverbial stick... :thumb:thumb:thumb

Get 'em bought :D:D

they're pants

Pants for what: grip, longevity? I thought it was the latter, didn't last as long as old style tourance but matey at tyre depot said they'd changed the compound to redress this, maybe I've been sold a pup?

I overheard one of the employees at a BMW dealer in Hants who said Roadsmarts were good but he'd found that a number of riders weren't replacing them once they'd worn - but maybe this was the feedback from my touring-orientated riders (on RTs), they wanted more mileage?

Need to do some miles on these ones then so I can get Roadsmarts next!

Yep pants for milage and many riders reverted to old style tourances:augie

I have Roadsmarts on both my 1200GSA nd K1100RS. On the K the roadholding is great both wet and dry. Could not fault them until the point where a ridge develops on the rear at the point the two compounds merge. With 2 1/2 mill left in the centre section this ridge was very pronounced and upset the handling on irregular surfaces so badly I had to replace. This was 5K miles on the K which is roughly the same weight as the GS. On the GSA, the first rear had to be replaced after 3K due to a puncture so I'm on my second at about 1 1/2K miles so too early to tell on mileage. Plenty still left on the fronts so roughly 2:1 for mileage on both at a guess.

I'm sure a gentler rider would get more miles but I love punching the bike out of the corners too much to care.:) I got 5K on both sets of Battlewing rears before switching but I did change with 3mm still left on those.

Quite agree... I can't see me getting more than 6k out of the rear....

But I get the confidence that its not going to let go....

I'd rather have confidence over 6k miles, than wondering whats going to happen over 10k miles.....

But I guess its up to you...

If you ride on the road, why have a tyre thats got pretentions of going offroad like a Tourance... I guess you could ask why I need a GS when all I do is road riding... Well I'm a big lad, it's got ABS, no chain and I love hustling it round the twisties....

what about the new Tourance EXP, a newer version of the newer Tourance, if you see what I mean, with a revised compound for greater longevity (which seemed to be the main complaint over the older-newer version?

Had the old Tourance on my 1150GSA and got the best part of 10k on a rear:eek:
Really liked them for every use.:thumb2
So when I got the 1200GSA, I opted for the new EXP's, they ride great, as well as the old ones but with nearly 3k on them they look like they wont last till 6k service:(
May opt for the old ones again if I can find anyone still doing them:confused:

just had some roadsmarts fitted to my 1150 gs , compared to the 4 year old anakees on the bike when i got it they are amazing ( do miss the back sliding comimg out of corners ) . no more wondering if the front's going to lock up and the back moving about going into corners . only got 300 yards from the house and had to drop the rear preload back 4 clicks to slow the turnin down a bit . bring on the weekend , time to go a scare a couple of supersport bike in the hills.

cheers martin

Bmw offers 175 pounds fitted !!!! metzeler turance/standart..I have the battle wings front and rear did 8,5 k miles front needs changing and rear could go another 4k miles bmw said and they charge 95 pound fitted front tyre battle wing...dont know what to do..can anybody give any idea for a new pair? metzeler turance or turance exp or get the battle wings again...many thanks..

Just been touring Black Forest and did a one day motorway slog back to the ferry which completely squared off my rear EXP - 4500miles. Booked my GS in for a service with BMW and asked how much for some road tyres and they said they do not advise switching to road rubber. I guess my BM dealer gets better rates on EXP's. Called M&S in Newcastle who said they'll do the Dunlops for around £200 plus fitting. Still sounds steep to me or am I way out of touch?
I did not feel so confident on the EXP's either as I found they tend to give without warning.

Chris.

I'm always at a loss to understand why a dealer would make such a ridiculous comment as to advise against fitting road tyres if you spend all your time riding on roads!! Is he scared you'll have more grip than you can handle??

Either way, about £200 for a pair of RoadSmarts is the best I've found in the West & South Yorkshire area

You want them fitted for that price though!

Tyres

My 12GS came fitted with Conti Trail Attacks, which i have to say i have been very impressed with. Will need a new rear very soon, so will prob go with same again.
