Is it ridiculous that I’ve done 3500 miles on my rear tyre on my 2018 67 1200gs Rallye and the dealer told me yesterday that it’s down to 1.7mm of tread ?????

Just seems ridiculous to me. They are Metzelers.
Thoughts??

To be honest that's okay , try 5 days 1500 miles lol (front and rear )
I have just put a set of the new Conti Trail Attack 3 on and will see how those go .
I all depends on how you ride , where you ride , one up two up , loaded etc as on a euro trip two up loaded it would be acceptable to use up a rear.
Im sure you know the above but if you are enjoying the bike tyre wear is part of the cost , more tyres more smiles.

You bought a 2018 GS not a Honda CG125, are you enjoying it? If so, and presumably you can afford an expensive motorcycle, then new tyres shouldn't be a concern, suck up the fact that it (and your riding style) eats tyres, stick a new set on and smile! :D
If nothing else, you'll get to test a new/different set of tyres every 4k.....that's a bonus in my book. :thumby:

Lighten up and you can ride faster and get more miles, 5600kms having fun is not bad at all.....:beerjug:

I think the Metzelers are great... great grip... why fix if it ain’t broke....
What are others getting mileage wise on their tyre??

Let us know how you get on with them ?

I’ve got Road Attack 3s on and I love them but I know you weren’t so convinced

I will , hope they are as good / better than the old 2 as that is great tyre.
I just wish the PR5 was a bit better wearing as it turns so well and once at the edge you have awesome grip all the time , its a wet design tyre so it will always struggle with wear so even after 1000 of winter riding its already 50% gone , but that due I think as its on the 1250 and the extra grunt rolls the treads.

I posted this the other day. Im on my original (Factory fitted) Anekee 3 rear, 12k miles. Getting it changed next week. But well happy with it.

I couldn't get half that mileage on a 650 VStrom, how do you do it?

I dont know:confused:

All my bikes have returned fantastic miles from the tyres. My 1150GS on Metzerler Tourance (Not EXP or next) I was returning over 20K on a rear. And that is honest. 22.5K on one. My service engineer, Olly an EX BMW technician used to tell me every time he fitted a new tyre, as puzzled as me. I ride with others so Im sure Im not riding like an old pensioner. I do tour. For example, Bought my Rallye in April last year, and within 5 months had done 12K miles around Europe.

So, I dont know.:rob

3500 miles on modern grippy rubber is pretty good if your riding style isn't the smoothest tbh. FWIW, I remember putting a new Pirelli rear on one of my Aprilia RSVRs and it being completely ragged in under 750 miles! Vee twin power impulses + chain drive seem to magnify tyre wear...the old beemer is a big softy by comparison.

Leaving it on the centre stand ticking over at night should do it. Thats the only way it would happen for me.
