Looks like you're near Crieff. I think it'd be a case of nipping down to Strathearn Tyres and seeing what Jim can get at the best price.

I've currently got Pilot Road 5 Trail on the GS and Avon Trailrider on the X-Country both of which I got from him. My only issue with Pilot Roads is the front is a bit noisy.

I've got a pair of Dunlop Mutant waiting to go on the GS next. I thought I'd try those since the previous Dunlop TR91 (?) that I had on a pre LC GS stuck like the proverbial.

No advice on off-road rubber as there's pretty much nowhere in Scotland to legally ride off-road.

This weekend I have just taken a set of Scorpion STR Rallys off my Norden after about 1000 miles in favour of a more Road biased tyre. I was lucky enough to be able to try some Dunlops out recently and found the Trailmax Merdians to be excellent as others have stated . I had the tyres swapped out yesterday and put the wheels back in this morning and then went for a ride to scrub them in. As promised they certainly sharpen up the steerring and although the roads were dry I managed to find hit some damp conditions and also some dirty , muddy roads absolutely no issues . By the end of the ride I was starting to have some real fun on roads that I know well close to home and they were so much more confidence inspiring than the STRs . I’m hopefully off to Scotland this weekend so I’ll be able to give some more feedback in a couple of weeks time.

i would’ve tried The Mutants but you cant get a 21 inch front. The Meridians however get rave reviews and have better longevity too.

If you're going to be anywhere near us, here in NE Fife, feel free to give me a shout Ian and I'll put the kettle on.

Great offer , thanks Mike . Travelling with a mate . Plan is to stay in Moffat on Friday night , Sat night Inverness, Sunday night Ullapool , Monday night Thurso , Tues night Fort William. We are obviously doing the NC500…. Might be in the area on Wednesday , we’ve just been chatting on the phone about possibly adding a night rather than coming back home from FW on one day on Wednesda.

One of you could have the cabin in the garden for the night and there's a spare room in house...

i prefer the black round ones, they give a superior ride and grip with minimal noise and tracked straight and true – no pulling to the left, even on the worst cambers.

They were so quick to warm up in all conditions, just so sticky i get 50 000 miles from the rear and they haven’t squared off.

I’m off some where really twisty, with a load of shit I just don’t need this week, to get the last out of them.

Contrast that with the square ones, they were the worst tyre i'd ever had i won't go back to fucking square ones, the ride was just so lumpy, they only lasted 2000 before they rounded off, they never warmed up – ditch finders.

They pulled to the left, then pulled to the right even on the flattest of roads so much, I even wrote to the MD of square tyres to complain.

Not had a response yet, but Jim my trusted tyre fitter who works from a wooden shed and has done since Adam was a lad, said I was the only one who had complained and he’s sold thousands so he should know!

I’ll put it on facefuck that’ll get a response - b’stards.

CTA3 - best tyre for the Bike, IMO. Great feedback and ride-ability in all weathers, temperatures & conditions. They last plenty of miles & the cost is reasonable too, for a premium brand tyre.

CTA3 as others have said. Good all round tyre and really good in the wet. Good mileage too. However I've found they can feel a bit light at motorway speeds so may try road attack 3 or 4 next time as others on here and elsewhere have mentioned that they're a bit better at speed.

Just by way of balance, I’d rather ride on bare rims than CTA3. I never liked them and my prejudice was confirmed when I watched my mate aquaplane, then somersault into a field when riding them. He no longer uses them either…

Tyres are like shoes. Pick what suits you and your riding style. I’m sure hiking boots with good reviews are very different to dress brogues with good reviews. That’s why there is so much written about ( and debate on) “good” tyres. Taking cheap Chinese crap out of the equation - it’s simply a case of looking at the price point you’re able to afford and seeking out the most likely tyre which will give you what you want. Horses for courses.

As I posted in another thread…..

Had Road Attack 3s on before the TA3s, there’s no difference in grip as far as my limited capacities can tell, the TA3s are just a bit quicker steering

However the TA3s do get a bit floaty on the front end at speed and they also track a bit on white lines and grooves in the road, I don’t remember the RA3s doing either of those things, maybe they squared off a bit quicker :nenau

it won’t be for a while but when I do change next I will probably try a set of Road Attack 4s

I Put Michelin pilot road 6 on.
Brilliant road tyre, although some folk on here ride with hands off handlebars and say they pull to the left.
Really !!!

Nobody here rides with hands off. You better read all the posts about Road 6 before you throw such a comment. "Hands off" is a way to test a bike's tracking, not to have fun. If you've never done it, you probably don't know what the bike's tracking is.
And one more thing, "Pilot Road" doesn't exist anymore. The name has been changed to "Road" long time ago.

Sorry i got the name wrong. You are correct that they are now called Road.
You are the one who started the "hands off handlebars", and i know how to check a bike's tracking and handling capabilities, thank you.
