UJ or Splines clunk = MOT Fail

Hi Guys, the tester stood at the back of the bike (1993 R1100RS, 41.5k miles) and gently pressed down on the passenger grab rail and there it was, a quite distinctive clunk clunk. The rear wheel has no discernible play and there is no noise from the UJ when I turn the wheel by hand. Does anyone refirb drive shafts and renews UJs ? I have seen some on Bins/Works, but not for this bike and around £350 ! Any suggestions and comments most welcome - I was just about to sell the bike on ebay, genuine buyer lined up - it is still on until tomorrow, cheers dp

Is the noise definitely coming from the drive. could it be suspension related if it happens when pressing on the bike.?

Is that what the tester told you? Sounds iffy it being shaft related tbh. Dry pivot point/bearing somewhere or as has been suggested above, suspension?

It's the rear shock top bush !! Plain as day with a wooden stick stethoscope !! The tester, a while ago, did have an old beemer with a shot UJ, and assumed that mine was the same !! Any recommendations for a replacement shock - bearing in mind that I am flogging it !! Many thanks Guys !!

I’ve never known the top bush to fail on a standard shock,(happy to be proven wrong)
try tightening up the bolt.
Also the bolts on the rear torque arm,and lower shock mount.
If it turns out to be somewhere else ,my money would be on the paralever bearings having a bit of play.

Quick update, new Hagon Shock from Motoworks now fitted and the clunk has gone. With the old shock, you could see the shock top bush moving on the pin ! I dont think that the rubber had failed, but the steel inner bush was worn. I will miss the dear old bus, they are so capable and great looking too. I fancy a Yam 250 XT to do up and there is only room for two bikes in the garage, the other is a low mileage immaculate Ducati S2R.

This really winds me up. There are so many SH*T testers out there who do not understand how to MOT or even understand what they are testing.

It is not a fail. It has not FAILED. It is an advisory. If that....
