I’ve been asked about costs.
The estimates look pretty accurate to me, based on the reduced rooming costs.
The way I look at trips is:
Fuel is fuel and you can’t (other than by cutting down on daily mileages) do much about it. Likewise, ferry / Chunnel costs, insurance and the like. OK you can save some money through advance booking of ferry / Chunnel journeys and / or looking for some deals. But, on the whole, crossing some sea will have a (possibly) disproportionate cost; that’s what comes from living on an island brings with it.
Hotel costs are variable, depending on level of accommodation, solo or dual occupancy, type of board (full / half or bed only) and, to some degree or another whether breakfast is included. The OP’s estimate looks to be very good value.
Booze, meals out, buying stuff and the like, are all very variable. If you (understandably) blanch at £8 a pint, don’t buy it or drink less or find somewhere cheaper. Or, just factor in, that you’ve saved on the accommodation.
The final test is, see how much a professionally organised trip such as this, organised by say BMW or MCi would cost, just to turn up.
Then, work out for yourself if you’d rather stay at home or at work…. Or go on holiday.
