It’s been suggested that we hold a UKGSer’s wobble box (and tenters) weekend, for motorhomes and campervans.

1. Proposed date

Friday October 16 to Sunday 18.

EDIT now confirmed as this date

2. Location

To be agreed, but preferably somewhere fairly central for our first go. Maybe the Peak District, say.

That said, if anyone knows a great or suitable site in say, Norfolk or Wiltshire (by way of example only) let’s hear.

In other words, let’s have some suggestions, please. I’ve never done anything similar, but I have an idea or two, which I’ll check out.

EDIT see post 70 (link) for location

3. Type of site

Preferably somewhere with at least hard standing, as opposed to a pure field. Probably, somewhere coming under the auspices of the CAMC or CCC. In short, somewhere with decent services.

4. Numbers

That very much depends on the site’s availability and capability. Let’s say, a maximum of 10 for now.

Look forward to hearing from bods.

Camc/ccc.....would be very expensive for non members....

Better of people finding a non affiliated campsite with a bar and restaurant facilities...

Plus no point in finding a place up North somewhere if every one is from down south...

To set the ball rolling, how about:

This is just lobbed out as an idea, as Derbyshire is reasonably central.

I’ll admit it’s probably at the higher end, price wise, but we have to start somewhere.

The Chatsworth Park Club Campsite is not permanently closing, but the Caravan and Motorhome Club's lease is ending in March 2026, and the Chatsworth Estate is taking the site back. While the lease will not be renewed, the estate will run it and it will likely not operate as a campsite under the current arrangement after that date.

  • Lease ending: The lease for the Chatsworth Park Club Campsite with the Caravan and Motorhome Club expires in March 2026.
  • Estate takeover: The Chatsworth Estate is taking over the site and will not renew the lease.
  • Future of the campsite: It is unlikely to continue operating as a campsite under the new management, but it is not closing permanently in the sense of being shut down entirely. The site will continue to be run by the estate.

If a gentleman had a van, but not a campervan

And said gentleman decided to sleep in his van (or in a tent next to it)

Would he qualify for this trip?

I’m out on those dates. :( I’m working on the 16th & 17th.

I can do the 2nd, 3rd & 4th.
