ULTRASEAL FAILURE!!!

reply to hils

thanks for taking the trouble to offer some suggestions
the hole was repaired with the BM plug kit to get the guy home so not that bad really
what credability do you give a tech. officer who says he injected the ultraseal through the valve(without removing it or deflating)
- seriously, read the buletin on the website or the mag. or the flyer at motoworks on their counter.!!!?
i'm not convinced about the lack of coverage inside the tyre - don't forget the bike was mine the week before and i wouldn't run it with inbalanced wheels!
i've reserved judgement at the mo. but i do still have an unopened bottle in the garage waiting to be used!!!

.............sounds like you need to use ULTRAFEEL Simon!;)

Notadrop, I have just remembered that Simon is 6' 5", we both better hope that Simon really doesn't take these comments personally.:hide

But your comment has prompted ideas for another use for Ultraseal, perhaps a coating inside condoms could prevent those er mishaps. ;)

Re Ultraseal just to keep throw in my 'penniesworth' I have recently returned from a round the world trip and put the stuff in prior to my departure. Bike was shipped to New York where I collected it. Then rode through States and Canada to Anchorage on my way south had a puncture in the rear tyre in the middle of no-where. By this point about 4000 miles riddedn on the tyres so Ultraseal was well spread.! At the puncture nail had gone through tyre Ultra seal was oozing out of the hole but it had not been much use.

Repaired the puncture with the BMW kit by the road. After another 150 miles another puncture same tyre, so repaired in same way. Although I didn't replace Ultraseal after first puncture not much came out so I assume should have continued protection.

Replaced tyres just south of Seattle 3000 miles later without Ultraseal, and have had no punctures since- 32000 miles in total.

My advice - save your money and buy extra inflation bottles !!

Experience of Ultraseal from a Police Motorcycle Instructor

A friend of mine is a serving Police Motorcycle Instructor. On his previous 'civvie' bike, a CBR600, he installed Ultraseal. After ~4500 miles the tyres were replaced and he and the fitter counted up the punctures. There were 12 punctures that had been sealed by the Ultraseal compound. None of them were catastrophic but without Ultraseal most of them would have fully deflated the tyre. The most he had to do for any of them was to put a few psi in the tyre.

The guy in question does more miles than I do and, in his leisure time, he rides faster and smoother than I (and most of you) do. He swears by Ultraseal.

There may be other products that do a good job too, but I like the fact that Ultraseal is water based and so is easier to clean off the rim etc.

As with anything (e.g. ABS), there will always be the exceptions where you may have been better off without it. However on balance, it looks to me like Ultraseal actually contributes to my safety.

Gets my vote!

Sounds like he spends all his time riding through barbed-wire!!

12 punctures in 4500 miles? In what must probably be around 200,000 miles in 25 years I've never had a single puncture (that's tempting fate!), and that's on poor roads covered with all sorts of crap.

Beaulieu, Ultraseal & Boyes Turner

Hello Chaps!

If you are going to the Beaulieu show this weekend come and see me do a demo with a brad-awl, a hammer and my demo tyre.

I will take you through exactly what to expect of it and how it works with the rubber.

You can then make up your own minds!

If you wanna buy and you're a GS'er, I'll sort you a discount.
Stall is marked Ultrasealonline.co.uk and the yellow 1150GS gives it away.

Alternatively check out Ultrasealonline.co.uk - the holding page will be history by the end of the week once Forest Gump(webmaster) loads it up. You can see what happened to his SV650 when he met a Corsa on a crap night last November!
(Boyes Turner www.boyesturnerlegal.co.uk - sorted him an interim payment of quite a bit thank you very much by the 6 month point - ex traffic accident investigators, bikers & loads of experience. Very good this far.)

Beaulieu had a gate of 31k Bikers last year so it's on a par with Peterborough. Should be good - Motorcycle Voyager had a full page ad.

Incidentally clubs can get a club space of 36ft x 30ft with 16 participants and 8 visitor passes FREE OF CHARGE according to the application for stand space........

Hils,

nice though your offer is, I was very disturbed to hear of Malky's experience with Ultraseal failing to deal with a puncture apparently within its design parameters. I was even more disturbed to hear of the way he was treated by the company when he approached them for help and an explanation.

I'm starting a RTW later this year and had been planning to rely on Ultraseal as my primary puncture repair solution until I spoke to Malky.

Can you shed any light on this matter and persuade me that this product is worth considering for my trip?

Mike

Mike,

come and see me in Rochester and I will install it for you for free, give you a bottle for self installation on your travels and explain to you exactly how it works. That should shed light.

In return I'd like a £10-00 donation to the RNLI (Gravesend) and a fair and totally objective press.

That do?
