I posed a question the other day. No replies...... :(
I'll simplify it. Is TTQV better than Garmin Mapsource for Ireland, Spain and Off-road.......
Thanks again in anticipation....... :thumb

Don't know :o from reading their catalogue it looks similar but different. IIRC it seems to work outside with differing mapping from outside the "norm".

One problem I can forsee (apart from having to wait till 2101 to get it  ) is the translation of the German into English, if they do. At least American has a close simialrity to English

I use bot TTQV and Mapsource.

TTQV is a management tool and has no mapping, all mapping has to be bought in addition to TTQV.

Version 4 of TTQV can use Mapsource maps as well and just about any other form of electronic mapping - comprehensive Irish mapping will only become available when NavTech release it, and then it will be available for both TTQV and Mapsource.

TTQV is vastly superior to Mapsource in working with waypoints, routes, tracks etc as everything is stored in a database which can be manipulated freely - Mapsource uses flat files which are difficult to manipulate - for example, if I wanted to mix waypoints from a number of trips to make a new trip it is easy with TTQV but very time consuming with Mapsource (although it is possible).

TTQV 4 is now available in English as is its manual.

Hope this is of some help.

I think Bob has suitably responded to your points, but just to add that the CN9 which is due for release in early 2007 should have 100% coverage of Ireland (current versions would run at about 60% - if I had to guess).

So, if you're interested in buying new/updated mapping, hold off until CN9 if Irish mapping is a priority.

Don't know if you already know but Garmin let you have a look at what the update has done here . At least you can have a look at areas that interest you and then you can decide if you want to pay for the upgrade.

Thanks for the info and advice. I have no experience (yet) of GPS and its associated software so every little helps......... :thumb. Any chance of you guys checking out my original question 19-10, Zumo and TTQV. Thanks again.
