Unbelievable Corrosion on a 1200 GSA

Yes my GSA 1200 is going in tomorrow to have the crash bars replaced because of rust. No big deal - probably a faulty batch. I see we have the usual over-reaction to a 1200 problem.

Looking forward to your test reports and ownership joys then, hope yours is perfect and worth the £11k+, you shell out

Because a bike in a crate shouldn't be shipped from the BMW factory like that

Would you accept a brand new BMW car with a rusty door (or one that went rusty within the first 2 weeks) when they hand you the keys to your new vehicle..............nah, didn't think so

Johnny,Johnny,Johnny give it a rest :nenau That's utter bollix and you know it

Price of a reasonably specced 1200 ADV is comparable to a 1150 ADV
Next
A rusty door on a car is far more serious,it' forms part of the structural integrity of the car, rust stains on an engine bar are less so, BMW are aware of it and customers have a warranty to fall back on.
Next?
You'll find something ,of that I have no doubt
I think you like the 1200 ADV really,I think you'd like one but you haven't long changed to your 1150 ADV-so you think it might be a bit too soon to change again ;)
Come on out of the closet Johnny :ymca

Let people enjoy their new bikes,be happy for them :thumb

Well it looks to me (reading the responses here) that's exactly what they have done - accepted it. Nowt as queer as folk as they say :nenau

Do you sleep at night Johnny? You seem to get a perverse pleasure harping on about things that you don't like. Maybe you are related to Dr ABS, you are certainly beginning to emulate him. Everything you have is wonderful and we are all tw*ts for buying anything different. Are you a fecking life coach or what?
I don't know you but people who do tell me you are a nice guy, I'm sure they are right but on here you come over like a reborn Ena Sharples.
OK, you don't like the new GSA, that's fine, is anybody standing behind you with a gun telling you to buy one? I think you will find that the people who did buy weren't coerced to do so even though they may lack your oh so superior knowledge!
Get a life! :dabone :dabone :dabone

I'm a great supporter of the 12 (& the earlier oilheads for that matter) and I normally ignore JB's "hatred of the 12" postings but I have to admit the deterioration on the demonstrator I saw was distressing. Not just rust but the finish on the shaft was "peeling" as well.

Could be there is just a bad batch and most will be fine. Certainly hope so.

Paul

Quality

BMW has a reputation for good quality products. I would have the 1200ADV if the gearing was different, but boy would I be pissed off if the bike started rusting in front of me.

Here is the States I think you could reject the bike if the same happened to the one like the demo described!!

I understand there is a warranty but surely you can't think.....oh I'll build this bike and if anything goes wrong then I will be sure to have the warranty department pick up our slack.

Just my .02 cents.

Only having a bit of fun ;)
only a fool would disregard your observations or treat them as an anti 1200 post.
Thus when i do pick mine up in june a fine tooth comb will be in evidence :thumb

Whens the test ride :P

I think it should be possible to do that everywhere Nick. It must be very unpleasant, and worrying, for the people who have to watch their new bike turn to rust. That isn't helped at all by jealous tw*ts/prats that harp on about it.

All the people I see, seem to be enjoying them (1200GS's and 1200GSA's).........great bikes, good luck to them & hope they enjoy them - live & let live.............but like Denester said don't blindly accept everything because you can't wait to get your leg over and I can't wait for a test ride on a 1200Adv, I may even buy one and shock the lot of you

Sorry Shenzi.................I am related to Dr Abs, Joyseeker and all the other Tossers in the world

For that is what I am...................... :nono a Tosser and I suffer from Insomnia

I like the 1200Adv, especially in White/Red and can't wait to ride one and maybe buy one

It's just a wind-up mate :troll2

No, it was just an observation that's all..................the bike's great and I will put pics up when I buy one.............

But I will not be co-erced by the marketing machine, if i don't like something and if I share my views is that wrong?

Sorry to be a pain.................I'll get me coat, get out the Dakar and go for a ride.............then all the pain will go away, shall I take some strong medication??

Really I can be a nice bloke, sometimes....................see you around in Yorkshire, when you're back for a home visit (In fact I think we did speak some years ago, when I was over at Jim McSharrys and you phoned him)

Off out on the Dakar.....................for some therapy, bye you lot

Not got the "chrome" headers then Micky?

Welding always looks better on the 1150 IMHO as they're painted black. So the 1200 GSA should look "better" made than the "standard" GS, except the crash bars are in silver :o
