Sorry Shenzi.................
It's just a wind-up mate :troll2

But I will not be co-erced by the marketing machine, if i don't like something and if I share my views is that wrong?

B*st*rd! You really had me going there :spitfire :spitfire :D :D :D

I agree with you about the marketing machine though, we just have to make sure BM know that we won't accept their crap. Maybe some owners should contact the TV programme watchdog, that would get their attention.
Rust isn't a factor for me fortunately :D :D :D

Not got the "chrome" headers then Micky?

Thought about it John, but every intention of fitting full Remus system anyway :D

Chrome can deteriorate, then you're down the creek without a paddle. At least with stainless it will polish up... I think :mmmm

I guess the money you saved going stainless (is that a contradiction in terms) steel will help pay for the leaded petrol alternative.

But would you prefer lifting it up compared to the 650 in Mongolia? I wouldn't

Seven month + trip of Africa already being looked at, September/October next year, no weddings to get back for, no time restraints :D

We'll be on the sixfifties for sure John :thumb

I recently read a post stating that BMW were genuinely concerned about the critisism, regarding the finish on their 'bikes........Seems like they are not concerned enough.

All joking aside gents, is there anyone who would dispute, that the finish on the 1100 is much better than the finish on the newer 'bikes. Yes, there will always be a knackered 1100, and a pristine 1200, but just look at an 1100, it's a much better finished beast all together.

IMHO.............FWIW................ :)

I think we have a two year warranty attached to every new bmw bike, wont rusty crash bars come under a warranty claim :nenau wot the feck who cares about rusty crashbars, my brake discs go rusty every night :D who gives a feck  i no one thing its a great bike :thumb cant wait to ride it again........tomorrow i think, i will go and have a look to see if i have rusty crash bars and take the duraglit just in case :D

You picked the right color. Redheads are the fastest, and the best :D

Rust is here as well

Hello, all. I just returned from a trip to Norway (=continuous raining and salty sea climate). Back home I also noticed this: lots of brown rust especially in the engine bars (the lower part of the side protection) and (to a lesser extent) in the part in which the fog lights are connected. However, the upper part of the side protection is completely rust-free. Is the distribution of rust similar in your bikes?

At first I have neglected this problem but now I must take it seriously. Have you succeeded in getting the rusty parts replaced by warranty? Any problems with that?

In my bike there is another problem in finish: the painting of side panels in the tank is of a very low qulity, looks like there has been too much paint which has drained downwards.

Cheers,

TunturiSport

These side panels are not painted but anodised and are a big pain in the ass - they discolour and stain and you will struggle to get them clean again.
I managed to get QD40 on mine and it went a lighter olive... in the end I had to spray the entire panel to get a uniform finish!

Damaged in transit?

CWs have a new pannier frame on order for my GSA as it was delivered damaged!
I was also advised not to use Muc-Off or similar on the fork/wheel annodising as the quality is suspect, however, used 1150 GSAs in the showroom appeared to be in 'as-new' condition.
Maybe quality control is becoming an issue at BMW?

It wasn't the corrosion that annoyed me about my 12GS, but the six weeks it spent at the dealers over the 18month period that I owned it. At least it gave me the opportunity to ride an 850 Rockster thing, 650 Dakar, 1200ST, 1200RT and K1200s :)......buy one, get five free :)
