Picked up my 08 GS last Saturday and am over the moon. Now I know what everyone has been raving about.:thumb Stopped off to adjust the screen at a garage on the way home and heard a voince over my shoulder asking if I needed help. Turned around and found it was a GS adventure rider. What a great guy and also made me feel like I am part of one happy big family.:hug What a nice feeling seeing another GS rider offering help. Had a quick chat and off he went, like a bat into the darkness, only a big bat with panniers. Off to South Africa on holiday for 2 weeks and can't wait to get back to ride. Question - If I am away for 2 weeks, should I disconnect the battery?
Look forward to seeing you all on the road with my new bike :beerjug:

Great feeling eh mate!...........I would leave the bike!.........mines have stood hail rain or snow without any problems! Fancy alarm systems which should be banned in my opinion..........might call for a slightly different strategy though!

Thanks for the response, will leave it and take a chance, fingers crossed it will start when I get back. :D

During the worst part of winter mine stood for about 2 months in the garage without charging. Started first push of the button:thumb

Good stuff, enjoy it :thumb2

I agree with the others, don't worry about disconnecting anything. If you're gonna be leaving it for a few weeks every now and then I'd suggest maybe getting an optimate charger or similar, just to keep it healthy, but mainly don't worry about it.

Glad you got hassled by another GSer, we're a nice bunch really :D

Yea, felt really good that another BMW rider stopped to asked weather he could help, I will be doing the same. :thumb:thumb2

Donny, I'd advise you not to leave it; instead, drop it round to me and I'll keep it running for you.

No need to thank me - I'm happy to help!

Because 1200GS riders are open minded trusting people, who have a true sense of adventure - why else would we buy a 1200 after reading some of the posts to this site :thumb2:beerjug:

Sorry Seanred, just back. Went to Alberton in Johannesburg and then off to the Cavern at the Drakensburg Mountains. Beautiful:cool:

Don't worry about the battery, I can leave my outside for a month or more in freezing weather in the middle of winter and it always starts first push of the button.

Oh sorry I've just realised this is in the 1200 section and I have an 1150 :D
