All right folks,

having read recently about a gs being stolen from one of the scottish users on the forum it has really made me rethink the security on my bike. Basically it was locked in a garage, on a ramp, and chained to the ramp as well and it was a totally unique bike (ie resale would be difficult) but it was still stolen. :spitfire

obviously the thieving scum should be castrated but i am wondering now how best to deter a would-be thief?

i realise a gun and a few guard dogs would do, but if they want it they will steal it, so how do i minimise resale potential especially of the parts?? microdots??? smart water??? or are there any new products out there?? is tracking an option??

apologies for the long winded query but if it means my bike is still there in the morning, its gonna be worth it.

cheers,

t

Once they've nicked it, :mcgun it is irrelevant if it has alphadot or anything. its gorn. :(

I read once that one of the instant offputs for a thief, is seeing a baby alarm plugged in. Assuming it is night time and you are in, then he's been heard.

Alphadot, Datadot, Datatag, Microdot, UV pens, Smartwater etc. are not great deterrents but speaking as someone who has for years specialised (and just returned to doing it again) in trying to catch those involved in vehicle crime, they are really very useful in tracking the offenders and getting them weighed off.

The truth is that if 'they' want it badly enough, there is no length to go to that they will not try (including violence).

Any criminal's biggest fear is identification, that way lies arrest and conviction. In my experience it's the one thing that is almost certain to provoke an otherwise non-aggressive criminal. If you do capture images, you either have to make it obvious (as a deterrent) or covertly.
