Hi all
A few weeks ago in mcn they did reviews on undersuits for bikers i was wondering what the general consensus is with regards to these. What my good lady and i would like is something that keeps you cool in the summer and warmer in the winter and doesnt just say so on the packet but really works.

I have two, a Dainese and an EDZ. The EDZ was a lot cheaper from Heine Gericke and does a better job :thumb2

Having said that I would buy some of the stuff from outdoor type stores next time - cheaper and probably better ;)

After reading lots of good reviews I recently bought a set of icebreaker Skin200 active base layers made from merino wool. First impressions are that it does exactly what it says on the tin, well box. Looks like it will soon make all my other techinical underwear redundant. £45 for zip long sleeve top and £40 for leggings out of local Tiso store. Possibly cheaper on the net but worth trying on first. Nice long sleeves/legs make it easy to put other gear over the top of them. As the weather gets colder I'll use them with my BMW Phase Change underwear.

Try the new Knox "dry inside" under garments?

Do these work with Gortex linnings. I find that all my suits are are Gortex and any cotton underwear tends to get sopping wet as though the wicking process has been upset.
I understand that silk works best but have as yet not tried it.
Who is an expert on here on getting rid of hot and sweaty?

Under Armour "Cold Gear" is great in winter. No matter how sweaty you get it stays bone dry inside. Much better than anything else I've tried and wear them sking every winter

Cotton underwear is rubbish if you`re gonna get hot & sweaty. It doesn`t wick the sweat away from you & so feels cold & clammy for ages :(
Any outdoor shop worth its salt will sell quality undergarments to keep you comfy. Names to look out for are Helly Hansen, Berghaus, Lowe Alpine, Craghoppers etc

I`ve got a Merino wool top from craghoppers & it`s great for not being stinky when worn & sweated in for a few times. I`ve also got a set of Helly hansen long sleeve & leg underwear that I use under my leathers & various T shirts from Lowe Alpine.

Have a look at this article http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/news/article/mps/UAN/4500/v/2/sp/ :thumb2

Man made fibres are definitely the way forward for all outdoors and sports gear these days. Goretex doesn't work in combination with absorbant sub layers anyway, hence the number of posts about getting wet inside perfectly good waterproof suits ;)

It has to be merino wool - doesn't smell! I have had quite a few so called technical fabrics and they all pong! I've run in my Icebreaker top for 3 runs and no smell. Once in my berghaus and it stinks. can't beat natural fibres.

Thank you

Hi to all of you ,thank you very much for your speedy response we shall be having a look at what you have recomended , all the very best Adam

+1 for this kit - I've got the body 260. Expensive, but worth it. It's true about the not getting smelly thing too - I wore mine for about 2 weeks between washes on a trip once and it doesn't get smelly!

Pluck

Dito about Icebreaker - I use a Bodyfit 260 in the winter and have just bought a 190 for summer use.
Don't forget that Smartwool and Howies make merino stuff aswel as other companies.

As for man made fibres. Yes they do pong after a very short while so go for the ones with silver in them as this helps to prevent the smell but does not fully get rid of it.
