Hi Chaps,

so there I was riding The Flying Banana on the M60 and slowing down for the 40mph roadworks. Cruising along for about a minute or so and I saw the speed needle drop to zero (where it stayed), immediately the red warning triangle illuminated (s**t, I thought) and a flashing brake failure warning light (double s**t). So I pulled off at the next junction (would you believe it but it was the turn off for Williams?) and stopped. The brakes were working OK, so I switched off the engine, left it for 30 seconds and restarted it. Result - no change, oh b******s, so I guessed my speed and rode to the dealers. Off with the seat, in with diagnostics kit, trolled thru' many warning codes to discover code 10120, followed by 'This is an unknown fault! Please report to BMW. Christ what next. So the lads re-set everything to normal and took the bike out for a spin and, yes you've guessed it, it failed again.

Oh well the lads reckon it's got something to do with a combination of the ABS sensor and a control unit.

Anybody else seen this code?

So I trundled home on a Scarver. It weighs nothing, vibrates like something from an Anne Summers party, your knees feel like they're up around your ears but it's a great laugh!

Hi Chaps,

well with the lack of replies it would appear this warning code is a good one!

A rpelacement ABS pump assembly's being fitted on Tuesday and the lads reckon this should fix things!

Typical that the weather's nice and I had loads of plans for te bike over the weekend, oh well you cant win them all can you?

Take the CS out. If you don't, I know how you feel. I've been given it a couple of times and it sucks. I don't think the dealer even stocks them now.

Hi Kiwi,

there's no where to put my camera gear on the Scarver so it ain't worth taking it out!

No doubt I'll end up doing som ehouse repairs instead of enjoying myself.

i know how it feels

HI reggie, sorry to here your beloved is in the workshop,at least absent make the heart feel fonder and all that...:(

Reggie, I'm also stuck with a 650... this is a GS tho... (not Dakar mind you)... I guess I'll stay in today and do some more work in the house..

One thing tho, what's these Anne Summers parties that you seem to know so much about   ;) ;) :D

Hi The joker,

well you may note from my signature that I also work in photography. Some of my work involves motorcycles, some aviation but most of it involves ladies in various states of undress.

I know it's a tough job but someone has to do it!!!!

As for gimp outfits, I always thought they were sidecars!!

Reggie,

That's exactly what I say when I "have" to ride all these nice bikes... Currently on the menu is the 2,000cc Kawasaki Cruiser... AHAHah... Someone has to ride it! :D

Whats wrong with the CS or the GS in 650 form. Stop winging and go and ride them. Its free mileage saved off your own steeds. I hear the CS is a fine handling machine and would quite happily ride one if it were given to me.
I would not buy either of them but ride them, hell yes:D

Hi Richie,

the F650GS is a cracking bike, I should know I toured Norway on mine and loved it.

The Scarver is an entertaining method of transport but it's f**k all use when trying to carry loads of camera kit about and that was my point. I appreciate every different type of bike for what it's worth but I also understand their operational constraints.

Many people in the World love cruisers but to me every one I've tried would have been better used in being melted down into beer cans.

Supermoto's are great for about 30 minutes, then they loose their appeal.

loaded tourers are fabulous for proper long rides but not much use when fighting your way thru' standing traffic (where the CS would excel).

So this afternoon I'm afraid it's out with the car + camera's.

However if I didn't have a job to do and just fancied a ride I'd gladly take the CS for a blast.

Reggie

Richie,
I guess I'm a bit spoilt when it comes to riding a lot of bikes. The F650GS, as a bike is absolutely awesome; it handles well, it stops well, and for what engine it's got it shifts well too. However, it's not my bike, which I was looking forward to ride after the initial holding-my-breath-600-miles... After those expectations (and a 5 month wait), no bike will make it feel as good.

I might take the 650 out, just because I can....

Hi reggie its all to du with colour of ya bike what FLYING DIAREA no wunder it broke down ,hope ta see ya on dales ride up to tanhill ,plus that famous camara of thine:beerjug:

Hi Basil,

thanks for that comment!

At least mine stays upright!

Looking forward to the ride out, subject to work constraints.

See you soon.

Unknown fault update

Hi chaps,

well the Flying Banana's returned!

The fault was with the ABS pump assembly. Replaced and all now appears back to normal.

This is all full of... Does anyone know how many brake failures are reported at ukgser.com alone?

Does anyone know how many brake failures together are reported at advrider.com, ukgser.com, i-bmw.com, bmwsporttouring.com, boxer-forum.de, bmw-bike-forum.info/k1200s/, s-boxer.de and all the other boards?

That succeeds the number of 21 widely! Just my thoughts.

Dr.
