OK, I've just done the latest update and as others have found, I can't get Western Europe onto the device (550) as I have done for several years.

I'm sure that all those computer experts out there know how to remedy this situation, can any of you explain to me, a real computer numptie, :rob, in words of everyday English, what I have to do? I know it's something to do with going into Garmin files and juggling things around.

Hi Mick

Easiest is to save the update to your PC only and then, having selected the required tiles, write the maps you need to an SD card using the 'send to device' button in Mapsource. Best to have the SD card in a card reader rather than in the Zumo. Once done, will take a while, you may then need to go into the menus on the Zumo, somewhere in settings/maps (not too sure about the 550) and un-check your old mapping and check the new mapping.

To save the mapping to your PC only keep an eye out for a button, bottom left, entitled 'Install Options' that's about four screens in on the update process. You can select to 'only install to your computer' there.

This is the quick and dirty (leaves the old mapping on the unit) but effective method. The only downside is the possibility of the SD card getting corrupted, not ideal if you're miles from home. Ask ClarkyTwo off the Viffers who had this happen on tour. Safeguard yourself by writing the same mapping to a 2nd SD card and taking that as a spare.

That's the most technonumpty solution I can offer you, HTH

Have a search, Wapping and I had this last time after selecting a tile set and ending up with a gpsmapsupp.img which used up space in the /Garmin dir.

You could make a replacement gmapprom.img image file (same as I suggested above but to a USB memory stick the n rename gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img) and put that in the Garmin folder on internal memory of the unit itself. Clear out any existing gmapprom.img , gmapsupp.img files and non English voices in the /Garmin/voices folder.
