I am still running Catalina on my Mac, looks like I missed out on Big Sur and now Monterey is the latest. Is it worth upgrading, what are the experiences with Monterey? Does anyone know if I will still get security upgrades on Catalina. Thanks.

I don't know if my experience is typical , I upgraded to Big Sur some time ago and it ran without any issues on my 2017 macbook pro. The same cannot be said for Monterey, I updated at the end of November and have just had to reinstall for a third time due to small issues like the status-bar disappears or the program dock fails to load. No amount of restarting or winding back in time-machine solves the issue. When it works, it is quite good, but the changes are mostly visual.

I am beginning to wish I had not been so eager to update.

I'm on the latest version on my MBP 2016. No issues at all.

My wife's MBP which is older is not on Monterey (and is too old to install) and gets security updates, however, if your machine can install the new one, then I think you may have to go to the relevant section on the Apple website to install older OS updates, if they still do that.

I went to Monterey as soon as the update flashed up as available on my Mc book pro

No issues whatsoever

It just works

Thanks, actually your references to mac age made me check - I have a mid-2012 pro retina and don't think I can upgrade to Monterey anyway!

In that case, just do the updates provided via the App Store or System Prefs and Sofware update.

I have a M/B Pro 2019. I updated a couple of days ago to Monterey 12.2, so far seems OK.

I waited till the latest software updates issued at the end of January had time for any adverse user reactions to be reported. Nothing was showing on the various Mac sites so I went ahead.

I never update immediately an upgrade is announced. There are always issues that only users seem to find e.g. there were early reports of Monterey "bricking" some computers. I always give Apple a chance to sort out these early problems.

It is the latest security measures that I value the most.

Glad it's not just me with the status bar issue. Drives me mad that I've lost clock and wifi /bluetooth icons etc!

Still haven't worked out how to get it back!!
