Urgent help required please...

I don't mean to be harsh to the chap Nutty.

Perhaps I'm the only one to think someone posting about 'a big crack all the way around a tyre, should I be worried' - having quite an obvious answer. Particularly given the op's comment to my initial post.

Hey ho

Yes it does and at various points the crack leads to small points of "disintegration". Sorry, edited to state that it's not uniform or straight but pretty much looks like the pic.

That does sound like the anti-static line, then. I've only ever seen it on my tyres when they get a bit older.

Must admit if I was concerned whilst on a trip I wouldn't ask here. I'd go and find a professional and ask their advice.....
Exactly.
Not many shops open at 20.57 at night though.

Isn't the point of the technical section (other than talking politics ) to get advice on bike related issues? :nenau
Without pictures, any 'advice' given is based purely on description.
Hardly a scenario worth considering given potential outcome of riding with a faulty tyre, if thats the case..

Anyway, that's my last on the subject, you'll be glad to hear.

And devon, I hope you get sorted & enjoy the rest of your trip.

So if it's that urgent you wait till the next morning.

Surely if you're that worried about your life a few extra hours isn't that bad.

As for the technical section - you use that with some sense and sensibility. Again - if I was that concerned I wouldn't be asking any Tom, Dick or Harry on here with no liability. For example - you're saying he should trust what's on here. 100 miles later the tyre explodes. I'm sure that you'll pick up the tab for any damage to his bike, other vehicles/fittings, bystanders etc. However if the advice comes from a qualified professional with liability insurance etc that is less of a problem.

That's also why I rarely give out advice on a public forum. I don't want to have something happen as a result of the advice I've given.

Maybe it's wrong - but that's my view.

Thanks for all your views guys, even Phil ;)
Yes, I was between a rock and a hard place last night hence my request for advice and in fairness I got what I was after, namely advice.
My mind has been put at rest and I will deal with it in the longer term when back home.... fingers crossed I get there :)
Cheers!!

Its a carbon anti static strip built into the tyre.
If you are around the South side of Galway drop me a PM and we will have a coffee.
Dont worry and enjoy your trip, you will never be very far from assistance anywhere in Ireland.

I know it'll sound like i'm 'blowing our own trumpet' But,
we should just have that as a sticky, coz it's true; :D
It's a small enough, active enough section for it to be so. ;)

Thanks patzx12... Following my own risk assessment and feeling sure it's the anti static strip that has been mentioned I've now reached the town of Clifden :) Westport tomorrow then heading back South to Rosslare over 2 days.

You're certainly a friendly bunch over here... Even the Garda on bikes wave....!!

My bike has done under 200 miles, and now has the "crack". Characteristic of the shitty Anakee.

Mine have done about 2,500 miles now. I know this will cause hoots of derision in some quarters but I think they're ok tyres - unremarkable but ok. I also have no cracks in them. I wonder if the problem is that some of you bods spend too much time upright, riding the centre of the tyre?

i have to agree having just done a track day at Thruxton on Anakees, and certainly wasnt hanging about

1500 miles in since the beginning of the year on Anakee lll, so pretty varied temps and road conditions and no complaints from me. Yes the hum a bit at certain speeds, but grip and handling are neutral.

There is a lot of opinions on tyres. Grip, noise etc.
The news is they are all good.
You can only put so much technology onto a motorcycle.
It doesn't matter how many buttons they put on the handle bars they are still only a bicycle with an engine.
I read road test about the new R1 ot GSXR and how impressed the tester was with the TC !!
All BS. Fine on a smooth track day.
BMW corporation do not fit bad tyres to their top selling product.

First track day I did (Mallory) I was using Anakee 2 on a Tiger 955. No ishyoos either.

FWIW, the Anakee 3 on my new GS now has a visible anti-static line around it, after just 700 miles. And for the bulk of those 700 miles over last week-end, someone else in this thread was there too.
