just bought my girlfriend a classic ipod

we have no idea about them but are slowly getting the idea.

we want to use it in the camper van via the 12v leisure battery so bought a 'docking station' speaker assembly that can be powered by a 240v ac 9v transformer or 4x1.5 AAA batteries.

I then bought a 12v cigarette socket adapter with a selection of jack plugs and a voltage selector.

Set it on 9 volts but speaker doesnt work

should I have it on the 5v option to match the batteries ?

I read that the ipod charges on either 5v off the USB or 12v via a charger

how does that work then :nenau

Thanks for all your help.
Been down to Apple in Exeter this morning and he is now setting up the new iTouch which is a really nice bit of kit. Couple of years I'll be able to have it as a cast off

Hi Trippy,

If using windows...

Plug in Ipod and turn off Itunes...
Go into my computer and open Ipod as external HD
Go into options and show hidden files and turn off read only...
Copy all the folders with music (F01 etc) into your hard drive
Open Itunes import all folders...

Fini:thumb

If using Apple Mac... I am not sure it will work at all...

(Ferkin Itunes))))))

it occurred to me yesterday that this method won't work on an ipod touch, as they have no disc mode like the more traditional models.

Well I don't know about the technicalities of it but I did plug his Nano into my laptop that it was sync'd too and took the music from it and into a file I opened on my desktop and into my iTunes librery. His new iTouch is running off his laptop so we're going to stick them all onto a memory stick to move them between the two laptops.

Don't know as I have never tried,
if I ever buy an Ipod it will be a 16GB Touch as when travelling with my sons I pod I never know what to listen too as he has too much music.... Wheras with 16GB you can really choose what you like before you leave and have two or three movies too...

Thats what I've been told..........

Apparently you can't use an i-touch as an external HD.

Anyone out there got an answer to this one.

My son has a 'touch and its being replaced so needs to get all his stuff off

why can't he just plug his new one into his computer/itunes and download the same songs into it?

you don't need to get the music off the old one unless it's not on the computer. perhaps he's synced it with a friends computer & wants permanent possession of the music?

Cos its being replaced by Apple.....

why can't he just plug his new one into his computer/itunes and download the same songs into it?

.....and they won't give him the replacement and allow him to cross over the music and stuff - they've told him if he wants anything to take it off beofre he has it replaced

don't understand that at all.

all the music on his current ipod should also be on his computer (and a backup if he had any sense).

he should have no need to take any music off the old pod as it will transfer to new unit from his computer as soon as he plugs it in and syncs with itunes.

if that is not the case, ie. he doesn't have possession of the original music, then he probably need 3rd party software to do the job.
