Hi All

Thought it may be of interest for those of you that need one (my bike is still in manufacturers warranty) but these guys e-mailed me today...

I've no idea if they are any good and I'm in no way affiliated with them, but it looks reasonable and you can get your bike serviced at any VAT registered repairer.... :rob

Don't waste your money...

I bought a Warranty Direct policy, and tried claiming on it when I had problems with gear changing - clutch plate sticking on splines. They refused to pay

Splines not lubricated = Manufacturing fault - not covered
Wear and tear - not covered

I think they'll find any excuse not to pay

Grrr.... avoid the buggers
 
I`m afraid that`s very common with non manufacturers warranties.

They are there to make money so will use any excuse to avoid paying.

with them a couple of years ago...had a problem they were not interested in paying out.....cost me £1500 in the end.....:eek:
 
I happened to search google for motorbike warranties and found this firm. I put in my details and it offered me a warranty. The first quote was £250 the second was £320... but when I click continue it said I had to pay like £13trillion+ BIZARRE. Anyway after this and then reading this review here I think I'll give them a wide birth. Anyone used the AA motorbike warranty?

Between those two clauses I reckon they can wriggle out of everything!
 
I'm into my second year with warrenty direct, £220 a year,so i reckon I've given them £300.
last year 9 months into the first policy they paid me out on a failed drive shaft.......youknow the one,the BMW sealed for life shaft.......dry as feck when it was stripped.
Anyway they paid out £120 MORE than the repair, to cover recovery, even though I told them it was free.

1 out of 3 is better odds I suppose. What bike, year and mileage was that £220 per year policy for? I phoned them up for a quote as the online side was kaput and got a price of £440.
 
Was last year, October 2010 I think. 07 bike which has full NON dealer service history, and 50 miles short of the 40k service.
 
Pretty sure this years policy is the same price.....goes through the books as a business expense.....and 'er in doors does the books......and she dont do price increases without a WAR !
 
Just got a quote from Warranty Direct. Read the policy document and it says they will only pay for the items listed. I asked them about ESA as it wasn't mentioned - the sales rep said as it wasn't specifically listed it wouldn't be covered under the policy. I wonder what else isn't covered?

I know the BMW policy is more money but it does seem to be more comprehensive.
 
Had them cover my car. SAAB 93 1.9TDI.

The bearings went in the swirl valve in the inlet manifold and they have refused, so far, to cover it, as they claim it's due to carbon build up (how does carbon build up cause bearing failure?!) I'm left will a £1k bill, :( but am going through their complaints procedure, and will go to the ombudsman and ultimately take it legal if required, as the SAAB garage have specifically stated that the failure is due to the bearings, not carbon build-up.

Avoid!
 
I Googled some reviews of warranty direct and found literally dozens of similar stories of them not paying out. When they phoned me yesterday to sell me a policy I told them about al the negative reviews and that this was a serious cause for concern, especially given their bloated quote, it was not a gamble worth taking.

They claimed to be surprised by these comments and assured me they were highly recommended, quoting 'Right Car' magazine and 'Top Gear'. Needless to say I'll be looking elsewhere.

The AA seem to provide good cover and they are a reliable firm in my experience but I need to look for reviews specifically on their warranty cover.

Rear Suspension
Suspension units,


Is covered.

ESA is simply nothing more than an abbreviation of Electronic Suspension Adjustment, a TLA for marketing purposes. I suspect the monkey on the phone muddled something up.

The front suspension (also ESA) is slightly more complicated and may take a bit of explanation....
 
Depends what you tell them

I dealt with many warranty companies in my years in the motor trade. Never did come accross one that would pay for anything. They all have small print, some very small print, that needs careful reading. Some were not worth the paper they where written on, excluding almost all known causes of failure. Others are of some use, the "only those items specifically mentioned" was the most comon cause of dispute though.

I always advised customers not to speak to the warranty company at all, these people are often quite skilled in getting the owner to give them a way out of paying. The "when did you first notice the problem?" question for instance. Customer says " well it started making a funny noise last week" That is enough for them to claim the guy drove the vehicle knowing there was a fault and caused the failure , they then refuse to pay. My advice always was find a good repairer and get them to study the policy and then make the correct claim if you understand my meaning. In most cases I was able to make a sucessful claim on behalf of my customers. At least one in line with what the customer had been lead to believe was covered. It was all in the wording-just like the policy!

Good advice thanks.

I am leaning more and more towards just stuffing warranty money and savings from non-franchised servicing into a bank account.

Dunno about bikes, but for cars a mate of mine runs a repair shop and tells me they do a fair bit of repair work for RAC warranties who are pretty good and he cannot recall them refusing a genuine claim.
 
My GS Adv is a very low mileage (4500 miles) version, just over 3 years old. I took the decision to renew the BMW warranty with Euro breakdown cover at £300. Sounds expensive against some of your earlier quotes with other companies but I am doing some serious touring in Europe in the summer so if I do unfortunately break down (having seen some of the problems on these threads and its early days for my bike) in the south of Italy or Greece I know which warranty will look after me best! Depends what you use the bike for to some extent.

I had a call back from Warranty Direct. They tell me ESA is covered and they are going to send me an email to confirm this.
