Using a 1200 as a daily driver - reassure me

Why not. It's the most fuel efficient big bike that I know and I've had a few fjr trophy 1200 capponord fazer 1000 bandit 1200 I'm on my 3rd rt and had a 12 gs and GSA. JJH

20k miles/ daily transport/ KTM - good luck

I got rid of my KTM990 Adventure

35mpg, 4000 mile service intervals (£300+ quid a shot). Major service every 8000 miles (£450+ quid a go)

Not to mention those chainy things that some bikes have.

I think I had to take of something like 54 fittings/connectors to do (just) an oil change.... though admittedly you haven't got take the fuel tank off that one so it may be cheaper.

It ate tyres (4000 miles from a rear, same riding style on my GS, 6000 and 4 mm left to go

On-off low revs fuelling was always an issue (the joy of low emmissions + fuel injection) my GS doesn't seem to suffer with that at all

On the plus side. It will be blast!!! I will say that the KTM looks really nice (and not at all like a tractor) and really was the most fun thing to ride.

I commuted about 110 miles a day on it...and it was actually cheaper to run the car, but that wasn't really the point.

The other thing is that GS just does everything too well to be called an exciting ride. I haven't decided whether that's good or bad thing TBH.

But anyway. enjoy your new ride, and we'll see you back in a few months when you've traded it in for a GS :thumb

I would like to disagree about the GS excitement factor. It's the first bike I have had that can slide without scaring the do do out of me. I have almost zero chicken strips and don't want to go back to *normal* suspension.

"almost zero chicken strips" = some chicken strips :teacher ;)

"can slide without scaring the doo out of me" ... it would be MORE "exciting" if it did scare the doo. My point exactly. It just does it so well, its a non-event. :nenau

Sliding on 2 wheels is NEVER a non event. Mine has *some* chicken strips because I can't go fast enough to lose them entirely. The bike could easily but roads are too busy etc etc. Circulating traffic islands might do one side but pretty pointless to me.

I've also got an *exciting* handling 750 Kettle. It sound great and looks fab, but for getting anywhere fast I'll take the Beemer thanks.

Nice as those are , the fueling can be on/off . I had a throttle cam , 16 tooth front sprocket and remap and it was a handfull in the wet . Kept it 3 months and traded it for a GSA . Some bikes were ok , but an extended try before you buy is a good idea if you can :rob
Its the same LC8 engine I had. I took the secondary butterflys out on mine which smoothed it out (bloody emission regs are destroying enjins)

Wish I'd known , it was a mental bike :D
Hmmm not sure its an "approved" mod. I was just experimenting, and seemed to work really well. I think it was a similar mod to the airbox mod on the TDM900 I had.

At lower revs air flow is cut to reduce noise emission and change fuelling (I think that's the idea - happy to be corrected) which is okay, but sudden throttle opening, means the valve doesn't open a quick enough, and you don't get enough air through - cough cough splutter, or, cough cough splutter stall crunch. :blast
