I'd quite like to not have a 'heath robinson' additional switch on the handlebar as a PTT switch. Is it possible to use the AS6B2 switch and relay to acct at the PTT for a intercom radio?

From the information, i can't tell if it can act as a plain switch, or needs the input to be 12v so is only useful to switch powered accessories.

you could use the autoswitch to switch a reed relay so this acts as the PTT switch, BUT the autoswitch works off the cancel button and you need to keep it held on for a few seconds for it to activate and deactivate, this woulod become a huge pain in the a£$e after a very short time.

you do get PTT buttons that go round the handlebar grip and it's a neat solution

Thanks Roddy

I was looking at the one which you press twice to activate. I agree the one which you have to keep pressed for a couple of seconds would be a PITA.

If it's not possible with the autoswitch, what neat switch options are there? (any pics)

Cut off the Autocom switch and fit what you like

How to: http://www.ebbo.org/autocom_ptt_mod.php

I'm working on a roller lever microswitch to replace the button at the moment, just nudge it with the left index finger to activate the PTT, well that's the plan :D

Ebbo, link's fantactic - thanks :beerjug:

As much as possible, i'd like to:
1. not add an additional switch (pref). I've sent an email to Autoswitch and not had a reply.
or
2. add a switch which blends in with the others and i can leave on.

I'm quite lazy and would prefer a setup i can install and then leave on (hence the preference to be unobtrusve) - if the radio's attached or not.

Push to talk

You do not need anything as complicated as an autoswitch.
Just fit a 12v relay (smaller the better) wherever you want it.
Wire 12v+ve from say power socket directly to one coil terminal of relay.
Wire other side of relay coil to splice into Blue/White wire which runs from Indicator cancel button to terminal 8 of central electronics unit plug.

All done.

Simple.
If you need a drawing, just reply to this thread with email address & I will send you one. (Or send me a personal message)

Found the latching relay on eBay

Could we use this delay circuit? Just need to work out the values of R1 and C1...

Steve
Steve: I had several requests regarding the circuits I have shown, & I may have got different people mixed up. Please reply telling me whether it is a PTT application or auxiliary lights, & I will reply regarding the timer.
If it is lighting, suitable timer, off the shelf is from ebay, namely
110371426712 from bjelectronics001
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Variable-Timer-pulsing-Relay-board-start-i-p-option_W0QQitemZ110371426712QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Industrial_Automation_Control_ET?hash=item110371426712&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
This is sold as Variable Timer/Pulsing relay board.
If you have HID lights, it would be very brave of you to make your own timer, because of harmonics problems with some HID lights.
This one works!

Thanks Myke.

I contacted the guy on eBay and Bernard has offered to provide a timer which i can set between 0-6 seconds, rather than 0-60 which should be easier for fine tuning.

I've also got the relay from eBay for £16.20 delivered next day. I contacted our local motor-factor who wanted >17 pounds plus VAT, plus 4 pounds carriage.

Next i'm trying to work out how to
1. seal it in a box and provide fly-leads.
2. connect the PTT to the intercom.

In another thread, i was permenantly TX'ing when i had a stereo cable in Aux3 of my 200, so i'm wondering if i can use a 4 pole jack to do the PTT option.

PTT

No need to put Bernard's timer in a box.
Just get a large diameter piece of shrinkwrap &, after setting timers & switches, shrinkwrap it. Works a treat. Cables exit 1 end of shrinkwrap.
Tywrap in place afterwards.
If you pinch ends of shrinkwrap is it is shrinking, it seals. You will be able to see timer adjustment point by bumps on shrnkwrap after it is shrunk, & you can poke a little hole in it to do further adjustment if neccessary.

Referring back to using the cancel button for PTT (clever idea Myke) I think it would drive my mates mad the number of times I'd be making spurious TX's while canceling the indicators,

Just my thought

If you put a 0.5 sec delay on PTT problem disappears.

Do you mean a 0.5 sec delay in transmission? I presume you do and that would help, just delay real transmission by the same amount, livable and rather cunning, well done Myke :D

The delay means you need to hold the calcel button for that time BEFORE the radio transmits. So, if you normally press and hold cancel for 0.1 seconds, setting a 0.5 second delay is ok. If, like me your all thumbs, a 1 second hold of the cancel button before transmitting reduces false transmit's more. If your just going to use the circuit (option 1 below), as soon as you let go, the transmit will stop.

I'm going to end up with 2 options (switchable):
1. Transmit only while the cancel is pressed and held (just using delay circuit)
2. Press 1, turn on transmit, Press 2, stop transmit. (using delay circuit and relay)

Just waiting for the circuit to arrive...
