Hi, has any UK GS ever had to use the SOS system when travelling abroad, did it work??

the reason i ask is that when i had an “off” in Portugal nothing happened, no phone call, text or email…..not even any message in the bike TFT
my bike is connected to my phone & the BMW motorrad connected app. when i asked at a portuguese motorrad centre they tell me there system is working perfectly & is free to use but as the uk is no longer in the EU to check with BMW UK as you may need to pay to use it outside UK.

Depending on the off, the Bike may not have detected it as an accident if the impact/g-force or other parameters don't fall into the pre-set parameters

The "intelligent emergency call" covers the following main scenarios:

Scenario 1: Automatic activation due to serious fall/impact (e.g. head-on collision at high speed)
Scenario 2: Automatic activation due to minor fall/impact (e.g. skidding front wheel at low speed)
Scenario 3: Manual activation in emergency situations

Managed to drop my bike doing a u turn, stalled it, slow lay down. The SOS didn't contact anyone. Tried a test call a few days later, first time it didn't connect, second try it just rang and nobody answered it :) All tested by the dealer, all ok apparently. They were obviously to busy to answer me.

Unfortunately dropped my GSA in the French Pyrenees on the way to Pamplona a couple of weeks ago

Within seconds I had a big SOS on the TFT followed shortly afterwards by a man asking in English (his accent indicated that English was not his first language) if I was OK

Very impressed

Mike

I also have the SOS system haven’t had to use it yet. However I also have the “Real Rider” app, which I also run when out and about. This app also covers most European countries. £3.99 per month subscription not a bad price to pay for additional peace of mind!
