Usual Coopers Sunderland crap

I sort of agree with the OP

even if the service manager thought the request was stupid, a few words would have sorted it out.

It is his job to look after the service side customers - a simple explanation of battery maintenance and service schedules would have gone a long way.

As pointed out its not just the battery its the attitude and its funny that when my car is in for service it mentions a battery check on the report

Why should anyone expect a worse service and a shit attitude off a garage because the vehicle has Two wheels I have rode bikes for over 40 years and drove for way over 30 I rebuild classic bikes so im no moron I dont feel its to much to ask on a service that costs over£200 that the battery is checked, its idiots like you that except poor service and shit attitude that makes it worse for everyone

TBH you should check the schedule you're paying for beforehand to see if a battery check is included or not.
if not , you can ask for it to be done.

But you're also right in that people get the service they expect and seem to like being treated like an idiot...could be a macho thing about asking questions ?

( ex mechanic, now mech eng. here )

. Maybe you could enlighten us as to just how anyone could predict a battery failure. You don't need meters and spanners to do that , you need a crystal ball. If there were no symptoms prior to the service I doubt any check would have produced a recommendation for a new battery. And if it had would the OP have spent the money whilst he had no problems with the battery?

I suspect the "shit attitude" you refer to was in this case that of the customer. I had 30 years experience in the motor trade and can testify to the unbelievable nature of some "complaints" Once had a phone call to complain about getting a puncture two months after we serviced the car! In my experience most genuine complaints get dealt with professionally at most places. Everyone has an off day so maybe the person telling the OP that batteries were not checked should have first pointed out that checking the battery would not have predicted the failure. Maybe they did and the point went over the head of the OP. Some people don't know the difference between stating their complaint and being aggressive. The "complaint" is ridiculous and I fail to see how asking to see the manager would help. Sounds to me like someone just wanting to shout a one more person because they need someone to blame for an unexpected event.

Look to round this up, you may be right i know batteries can just let go, but as the garage is on the way home from work i went in to question if it had been checked in my service which was only 13 days before, i did not go in with a bad attitude but what i realy got annoyed with was the shrug of shoulders and the just go away i can't be arsed attitude when i told the guy on the service reception what had happened, if people never say anything or just ask a simple question nothing will ever get any better how some people arrive at its the customer with a shit attitude makes me question the independance of some of the answers on here it's like a them and us thing ( which it should'nt be ) the end result is that i am after buying a new RT early next year and it defo wont be from Coopers as their after sales service is shocking it may not be the biggest thing to them but if i had anything to do with the company i would want to know about issues and to see if they could be resolved.
The bike is two and a half years old 15,700 miles on clock fully serviced and kept on a battery maintainer it may be me but i would expect the battery to last a bit longer if they don't last longer maybe it would'nt be a bad idea for the garage to give a quick checkduring a service.
I rest my case your honour.

so how do you think a battery should be checked? do you think there is some magic tool to check battery's that is better than pressing the start button?

your case is weak, battery maintainers are well known for killing battery's if kept on long term!

"Tong" tester?

Maintainers are more likely to mask a weakening battery condition - than "kill" it

Your brain is weak what i said was if there is a known and i say if ! you can check a battery to see if all is ok or is this beyond you but also i have said it was the attitude much more than the battery or is this beyond you as well

In Nov last year you posted this about Coopers:

A total bunch of ignorant:blast lying bastards NEVER AGAIN.

And then you take your bike for a service in June 2014??

Let's say that you had a go at them in 2013 to reach your previous conclusion. Then in 2014, your Battery packs up and you pop in for another go - and the manager doesn't want a chat - what a surprise!

As you say yes i had a go last year it was when i had just bought the bike and within a couple of miles an oil warning light was on to which i took it back and had to leave it for repairs and yes i was a bit peed off ( who wouldn't be ) they were ignorant on that day and i did feel never again but with time and no other nearby dealers hey ho a second go maybe they have got better and put my bike in for a service. As stated it wasn't so much to have a go as you say but to ask, yes i wasn't pleased but i didnt go in to cause trouble it seems that a lot of people on here struggle with the idea of someone just asking questions but the way in which they dealt with lets say the question was with sheer ignorance again if i am wrong about something i'm wrong and thats ok but just to be shrugged off and ignored i feel is wrong i may be lucky as i have never had service like this before either from a car dealer or bike dealer but in future i wont go back as to reward ignorance would in fact be ignorant
