vacuum fuel taps?

Yamaha Chappy LB-2 80cc twist-and-go.
It has a vacuum fuel tap, which doesn't have an off position, and unfortunately it leaks fuel if I fill the tank with more than a cup full. Does anyone have any experience of repairing these? I haven't been able to find a repair kit for this model. Or is there a way of replacing it with a standard tap? What do I do with the vacuum pipe in that case?

Take the whole awfull thing and throw it as far as you can into you landfill site. Then buy yourself a pitbike

...or maybe;

take it apart. blow through the bits you can to remove any obvious muck. soak the lot in fuel. this should help expand any gaskets etc that may have dried out and shrunk - allowing fuel or air to pass where they shouldn't.
worked for me on ...... cant remember - some old Jap UJM years ago

but - maybe not.

If you fit a tap which has no vacuum connection, plug the hose with a 6mm screw.

I take it you're not a fan then Rob?
After much fannying about, and dropping my 1200 in the process , I found a normal fuel tap much nearer home. My mate who runs the off-road school down the road has a selection of taps off broken quads and cheapo chinese imports!
So with that bolted on and the original chucked in the bin, (the diaphragm was actually split, so the fuel was permanently switched on) we are ready to roll.
