Nice to see you both over here....and please ignore Timothy, he doesn't play well with strangers :D

I looked at Varaderos but they just didn't rock my boat.......the dealer was a twat, I didn't like the feel of the thing when I took one out and when I sat on an 1150 it was far far better...then the Adv came out and it was love at first sight, consumated by my first ride on one.

If I had to go to another bike, the Vara might be on the list but I'm afraid it'd have a bloody hard job beating the KTM990 Adv...I like to take mine offroad, fording and green laning and as others have sdaid, though the Vara is far butcher than a lot of bikes, it just can't live with being offroad properly.

That said, I'm sure it'd be a fantastic long range tourer that could handle rougher roads etc.

You still use one of those old fashioned chain things don't you?? ;)

:D

I had many Africa Twins before I got the GS. I tested the Varadero when they first came out. Loved the motor, but thought the styling was a bit Transalp fed on lard...too much plastic.

They don't make the great AT any more (sadly)...and the later versions available second hand were starting to get a little bit 'cut price' looking...hence the GS...never looked back since...just spend a lot of time looking at my Bank Statements. :D Front pads £83 ! ! ! I'll get over it soon... ;)

Tell the truth Phil, just don't admit you own a GS or you're toast.(I'm absolutely sure it's nothing to do with me, as I get absolutely no abuse here whatsoever) :D

I bought mine for one reason.

I wanted a big comfy armchair with a nice high seating position for mile munching through Europe 2 up fully loaded. Gets 5 stars for this. Done Poland, France, Spain, Austria, Italy and Germany. 100% reliable, never used a drop of oil between services. 200 mile range at autobahn speeds and around 8K from Tourances. Not interested in off-road.

So the Varadero fits the bill 100%

Red, I'll not tell anyone you ride a Pan! :dabone

I was never offended by their looks, unlike the whole of the bike press. I wanted one for a while. I was worried about the handling though and that was somthing I knew the GS didn't have a problem with. The GS seemed a better long term buy as well.

I'd like a good thrash on one one day, just to see what I'm missing :thumb

Hi all,

Over here on parole from the Varadero UK forum.
No I haven't come over to the dark side! :D

One of our members raised the following question:

"What do the GS crowd think of the Varadero?"

Someone suggested asking here, so I have, enjoy!

Personally, I think it's a great bike with a fantastic engine a gearbox which is more than can be said for the GS. The ride is smooth with great poise and loads of low down grunt to keep all the torque freaks well happy :(

Unfortunately it looks like a pile of shite with absolutely no style (apart from the cans), character and virtually ZERO off road ability!

The Vara is a road bike, plain and simple.

Oh yeah, then there's the chain drive and for the fact most of it, now built in Europe? Yeah I know so are beemers, that's why they're built like shite too :bounce1

some of them have the right idea

and they got there own Steptoe

I wonder if there's talks as much bollocks :D

interesting..

I have a 02 Vara but have recently joined this site as i want to get hold of a silver GSA. Test rode a black GSA last weekend and handling / suspension leaps ahead of my Vara. Good about town and quite heavy (which i like). Vara seemed more powerful and better wind protection though...

Anyway, i was going to put scorpion cans on the Vara but now i am selling it to get a GSA.. amazing what a bit of web surfing can do!!

I like the Vara but just like the GSA more.. i'd like them both but.... :(

It's all starting to look very scarily familiar
