After many miles covered using my Vario Panniers i have come up with a solution to a problem.
When the panniers are loaded to there full capacity when you go on a long trip they suffer from 'bounce' or rather they flex a lot when full, especially when fully extended , when you load them up you do think to yourself 'lot of weight here!'
People who i have riden with in groups have always said that 'your boxes flex a lot' when away on trips - so I decided to try to solve the issue.
I have come up with an adjustable brace which attaces to the underside of the bike and supports the panniers against each other, thus reducing the flex.
The idea is to give confidence in the existing mounting points (standard) and reduce the action of heavey stress.
I have only made a prototype which i have used over the past couple of weeks , is there any interest of this brace as i will post photos on the site to show the brace.
It is manufactured out of steel and powdercoated with swivel bearing cups on the ends.
What do you think - any thoughts and i will post some photos once i find me camera.
Happy days

Might be interesting to see a picture, but if your brace crosses the wheel arch I would expect problems with suspension travel.

I know from experience that it is possible for my hugger to hit the inside edge of the upper pannier rail clamps

I'm very interested to see what you come up with as will soon be giving my Varios a pretty rough time on a longish trip - post them piccies, tell us more :thumb2

My Varios have been fine for about 7000 miles fully loaded. I would be interested to see photos because they do rock on their mounts and I'm not sure I want them to.

Someitme flexing is good (think aircraft wings). Making things too rigid is a good way of breaking things.....

Faliure normally results from elimination of all movement - the brace reduces the flex but allows movement but without excess .
I will post photos over the weekend -thanks for all your comments and i will do my best to picture the brace in all positions and off the bike to give you a good idea on the concept.
Happy Days

Have removed the rear shock anf put the wheel thro a movement to touch the under plastic - clears no problem - i will post pictures to show this when i get my sh-t together - busy at work -hopefully this weekend

AFAIK They didn't change the back end between the models (other than adding ESA suspension bits and LED lights anyway)

Therefore
2004 Varios fit 2008
2004 Seats fit 2008
