vhs video to pc

is it an easy task to convert vhs videos onto my pc? before the video machine finally gives up the ghost!!! only have about 10 tapes of family holidays with our kids at disney etc? so don't want to spend £100's doing it?

Fit a cheap TV card to the PC and find some nice video editing software. Sorted.

Hook up the VHS to the TV card and press play

The card will come with some basic software for recording and so on, and basically you just record onto hard disk. It really is that simple.

Of course, you can also make it as complicated as you like.... add titles, effects, convert to various formats, stick it on your Ipod. Sky's the limit.

on the side of my laptop i have just noticed i have a round plug with 7 pin holes and one flat slot below?(4pins at bottom 3 above) looks like the letter s beside it? is this any use?

S video, probably output only for plugging into TV's and the like.... dig out the books that came with it. If you've a desktop, the TV card route is much easier.

get a DVD recorder with built in hard disc, don't want to sound insulting but this is a simpler transfer as you may not be able to cope with all the issues involved to copy and reburn the material to DVD via the PC.

So VHS player in one side DVD in other, it's a simple dump transfer rather than trying to copy VHS into PC etc. edit, top tail and reburn to DVD.

You can even buy dual machines that do this for about £120.00

no wires, no mess, no fuss.

bisch - bash - bosch DVD's of that 1972 Morcumba and Wiso Chrismatzione Speciale is yours to keep for ever.... well till the DVD corrupts and won't play no more.

sounds alright but check if you need a seperate harddisc as video files are proper big!
