Vibrations and noise

Hi there, sory for my english but i could use your advice.
I have a 1150 gs '01. I had some vibrations noticable mostly in 2nd and 3rd gear which were worse in turns.

I thought it was the rear drive so i changed the needle roller bearing from the input bevel pinion (it had some play), but it didn't make any difference.

So next was both bearings of the crown wheel ( as i have found small metal chips). While assempling the rear drive i notice a noise when i was turning the wheel by hand. The noise is louder when i turn it conversely. It looks like it comes not from the rear drive but it could be from the transmission .

The vibration change according the engine's rpm, they almost disapear when i pull the clutch and they are 'stronger' while leaning.

(i have checked the shiming of the crown wheel and the u joints are aligned).
Any ideas?

I hate to say it, but what tyres are you using, it sounds a lot like squared off tyres that vibrate and are noisy in corners, mine does it?

I have pirelli, they have around 8.000km but that cannot explain the noise when turning the wheel by hand and the fact that the vibration changes according the rpm not the speed.

Noise while leaning?

Hi,
I have a similar problem. Not the tyres, new pair, sounds like it is from the gearbox, driveshaft of bevel box when riding. I have replaced the two crown wheel bearings about 5K miles ago, but I had the same feeling in the bike before this? Going to investigate over the next few weeks. No noise with the bike upright and riding but noise with left and right lean angles.

Any ideas where to look??

Back tyre is nearly done its an Anakee? Its getting changed as its the chaeaper option and needs done anyway.
Any further thoughts? Its a 2001 with 25 thou on it.

My clock says around 53thousand km but i guess i must have around 100 as i bought it second hand. It's a 2001.

My fd still working, 5000km since the last change of all bearings.... but i still have the vibration and mud in my oil

I am looking for a good used one.

Hi, 80K miles on mine 2002, new shaft 10K ago, new bevel box bearings x 2 5K ago and 4 swing arm/bevel pivot bearings 5K ago all torqued and preload set correctly. Disappears with the clutch pulled also. Had it with worn tourances and now still with new tourances?? Can't feel any free play as when the bearings are on the way out. New clutch 5 K ago with slave cylinder and associated parts too.

Gearbox is my guess..

If the noise is rpm not speed related then its engine/gearbox "in" side. If speed related then from the "out" side of the gearbox backwards.

Keep the revs where the problem occurs, pull in clutch. If problem goes away then its more likley gearbox not engine so I'd start looking there.
