AVS4You. Google it. The video editing app. is nice and simple. When you buy it, you actually get a suite of apps for audio editing and everything (isn't expensive). :thumb2

Quick time pro it's $40 I think and allows simple editing also the mpeg's from the gopro work in it. can work on MAC or PC

If your using a PC movie maker should now also work and it's free from MS.... or if your using MAC iMovie comes free and it's simple enough to use.

best of luck

Most video cameras come with basic software that allow basic editing of the footage captured, so worth checking first.
After that you pays your money, and takes your choice. If on a Mac then I movie is a great place to start. On a PC it's not quite so straightforward. I don't think Windows Movie Maker supports MPEG 4 editing, but you could change the video format to one that is, however you are likely to lose some quality.
If you decide to buy a programme Adobe Premiere Elements is one of the better choices, and will have sufficient features to satisfy any wish you may have to take things to the next level. The only thing I would point out is that any HD video editing is very processor and memory intensive, so having a fairly high spec set up will be of great benefit.
