I am at Heathrow awaiting the flight to Doha then on to Hanoi in the north of Vietnam.
I am hiring a Honda CB500x for 3 weeks and travelling around the north and the middle of the country.
On my own again this time.
I shall endeavour to add a brief write up and a few pics here as I travel around.
Should be epic.

My mate has just been there, came back last week, had a fabulous time blasting around the countryside. He did say “riding in the dark is incredibly dangerous”. Have a great trip.

Interested to hear more about hire costs , suggestions ... and general dos and don'ts. In India (which I know better than most) I would happily turn up - hire and go with nothing pre booked ........ just travel about where the fancy took me ... and eat .............. Thailand .................. I don't know .... would this work ???

Great stuff . The North is very spiritual , been there a few times . Loved it That's quite a big bike for Vietnam as they are heavily taxed . Up on the Chinese border is interesting , Ho Chi Min is very busy if you get there .

Did ho chi Minh last year starting in Hanoi and the north then all the way south. Had a versys 300 for that lovely bike but the honda has better luggage. The north ys lovely hense me staying up that way more this year.
Got to go just boarding the plane.

2 long flights later and the usual massive queues at the Hanoi airport I have arrived. Dodgy taxi drive to tonight's hotel in the usual chaotic Vietnamese traffic. I'll nip round the corner to the bike shop just to get stuff sorted before picking it up in the morning and setting off on the journey. It's about 26°C here this afternoon so I'm sweating a bit
Picked up a local SIM at the airport for a staggering 350.000 dong for 5 gig a day for a month.
That's about £12.00 ISH. Bargain.
I have gone with the same Bike shop I used last year and as they have shops up and down the country it makes getting stuff done on the road a little easier.

I had intended picking up the bike at 9am. 2 am and I was wide awake after about 3 hours sleep in about 30 hours. Finally nodded off again a fair while later and woke up at 10.45.
So I left a little bit late this morning.
So anyway
First day on the bike today. A little rain. A lot of cloud on the mountain passes. Nice ride today though despite.
Found a nice homestay for tonight. Locals have invited me for dinner. They are boiling pigs heads and other assorted animal parts might be interesting
There is a resort just up the road with the longest glass bridge in the world which I'm going to visit tomorrow. A few more bits and pieces to look at there as well.
