RE Ryanair and bringing helmet as hand luggage.

It very much depends on the girls on duty! It defo won't fit the luggage rack thingy and if you're asked to put it in and it doesn't fit they'll charge you €35 or €40 and put it in the hold!!

I've travelled with Ryanair over and back to Stansted 4 weekends in a row in the last 5 weeks and I would not risk it.

That said it's absolutely random and you could be lucky!

Fly with Aer Lingus, they are just as cheap as Ryanair but far more civilised.

if you confident enough about the bike have a delivery company collect it for you. Think I paid under €200 for the VRT on my 1100.

Ryan air will almost certainly give you grief for the lid, it could work out easier to buy a cheapie in the UK

Had a similar problem with 2 helmets on Ryanair recently so paid for
one bag in the hold and put many layers of bubble wrap around them.Took a chance and
all worked out fine.Next time Aer Lingus , much less hassle.

Airport security actually stopped me before with a lid but eventually cleared it. They said it was up to the discretion of the Ryanair crew.

I just threw my jacket over the lid and walked onto the plane with no-one the wiser.

Could you wear it ? When they start getting windy you take it off and show them your passport matches your face and drivers licence. Then tell the girl you want to wear your hat / helmet/ safety hat during the flight .
