Wait for the new w/cooled BMW or defect?

Stonker,

This is the only forum I have registered with, for the reasons spelt out, I think it is highly developed, informative and 'generally' has a good atmosphere about it. Although there are occasions when some posts appear to be 'unnecessary', and it is one of the reasons why having been here for at least 6 years, I still have only registered about 140 posts. I can't be doing with aggro in my own time, but do realise that for some that it what 'floats their boat'. :D

But the wealth of knowledge, technical and general alike has been well worth the subs, that before the savings you make by selling and buying here, over say e-bay. Another institution I tend to avoid if at all possible. :augie

Here, I am happy to pay my subs as it has helped me develop my tours and travels and points me in many useful directions on a number of issues. I don't feel as though anyone is getting rich off my back, and although a technophobe myself, I understand that sites like this have overheads in running them. Just my view.

Sorry we couldn't catch up I would have liked to know about your recommended dealer etc. Even if I do defect I will remain a subscriber here, not least in case I find myself running back to a GS W/C..................:jibber

I am worried about what I call the 'VFR feeling', after I sold my VFR750FM, a bike so accomplished that when I eventually sold it, I instantly regretted it. Despite my best attempts (many many bikes) to find a replacement, it was not until the GS that I felt I had found something as worthy and all round accomplished.:thumb

Anyhow we will see. Maybe, perhaps, possibly?

Had 3 Triumphs and always found the build quality questionable......:nenau

I'll be waiting to see what the new 1250 brings personally....

It is one of the factors Ian, I wish I had more info on it but i can get very little via my contacts. But I have firm offers for my current bike privately and it puts me in an enviable situation.

I had a good look over the bike it is not like my 955i, much better but I know what you mean.

Hey Ho!

Far as I can work out modern Triumphs no better or worse than BMW's. The wife's 1050 Speed Triple has had no issues and folks I know with Triumphs like them. Personally I am warry of buying any model in the first year of production and would take the same view of the W/C GS when it comes out.

Indeed. There are a lot of nice people on this forum and for some of the reasons you mentions I have stayed here for a number of years in spite of my well publicised fall out with BWM. Membership isn't something I'm not adverse to and as I said on another thread, I did make a contribution once and even last week drove some tables round from Surrey to Kent for a meeting that I may not even be at.... Either give Ken a call if you want to or ask Dutchess if she will pass a message on for you or give you my email address. Not sure I want to put it here in the current climate

Understood. Likewise I have reasons for not posting my details. :thumb2

I used to be the same. But I bought the face lifted GS on launch and the twin cam GS, no regrets. But then this is a totally new model. Tricky, the GS is fab and there will be no criticising from me..... The Triumph is very impressive....

Sounds like you should go for it then :beerjug:

Had a look at the launch night at my local Triumph dealer and I have no doubt that it will be a very good bike. Look forward to your write up in due course ;)

.....in spite of my well publicised fall out with BWM. ....

A resume would be handy, please.

They must be under your old name. All that comes up are your assorted and frequent appeals for guidance and advice.

I really don't think it's something we need to dig up again. You must be really bored if you're reading through all my old posts

Oh dear oh dear!

Back to the thread title........:augie

Under the headline Move Over BMW and amidst pictures of a feckwit journo in leathers and white boots:rolleyes:, this months BERK magazine has an extensive test and article on the Trumpet. Lots and lots of praise on power, torque, handling etc then they accidently put the grenade in place and pull the pin and I quote:

The fuel economy guage seems a little on the optimistic side reckoning on over 40mpg when a fuel stop gives the chance to measure the actual consumption at more like 33mpg :eek:

33mpg? WTF were the idiots doing with the thing. I'm betting the marketing department at Triumph are bouncing off the walls:augie

What's BERK magazine? Figures I've been hearing are more like low to mid 40s but every new bike that comes out, my experience is that the mpg of tight engines isn't so good but improves as they loosen up. As you say though, I can't see Triumph being too happy oubout it, especially with only a 20ltr tank.

Apparently the lights are really good though

BIKE magazine:thumb I hear the 800 is a little thirsty compared with F800 GS so I imagine this 1200 will also be a bit greedy compared with the boxer.

It's OK for a sunday blast but will make a huge difference on a big trip.

Oh, OK, I thought it was an American mag at first with their silly gallon. I don't suppose it will be as frugal as the GS but I'll ask some of the guys who have them what they're getting so far

It was you who dug the subject up, with reference to your, 'Well publicised fall out with BMW'*. This suggested - to me at least - that that it was well known or maybe of some interest, this being the 1200 Technical section'n'all.

So, two seconds on the (underused) search facility - admitedly only limited to threads started by you - revealed, well..... nothing. Which suggests you changed your site name at some point. Your 'Well publicised' dispute seems to be hidden, awaiting it's moment in the spotlight, I'm afraid.

As to reading them? Don't flatter yourself. The titles of your numerous appeals for assistance were quite enough.

So, gonna spill the Heinz 57 or remain in the can? Come on, don't be bashful. It was well publicised, so it must be worth a re-telling to a fresh audience. Start a thread, why not? Nice work on driving the tables, mind.

OK, here's a link if you're that interested

It's OK, I have been pointed in the direction of 'Sanguine' and a tale of woe that's enough to make men cry and woman throw their babies to the waves. You are right, keep it buried, or you'll look like a tit.

PS I have a friend who was (very briefly) a member of the Kent IAM. He tells an excellent story about the nervous preparation for their jaunt to the 'ring, including one bod's requested for advice on how to practice over the three or four weeks before their departure.

Apparently my chum's: "Try riding on the right for a week, before you go", did not meet with universal mirth.
