Wankpanzer Oder Uberwankpanzer ?

You can reach any destination ?
Possibly not, if the first time you load up and head out to the Road of Bones , via Starbucks, this red screen of death pops up

I’d be mightily pissed off if I’d forked out the best part of £30k to have the bike travel the world on the back of an AA van 😜
Perhaps that’s what they mean by a comfortable start-sat in the back of the recovery truck heading home 😀

What is it that you feel let down by ?
Well so far, applies to GS and GSA

.......the unneceesary technology, the looks, the weight, the price, the change to a 'sportier vibe and the number of issues reported.

Technology - I remember the moans aboout ABS When that came in. Its just natural evolution of any product.
Looks - IMO the GS breed has never been bought for its looks.
Weight - its lighter ?
Price - inevitable. The plus side, less on the road.
Sportier vibe - agree, however, the Adventure version covers this.
Issues - teething issues are normal with any product.
Since my 1999 GS, This new model for me will be by far the best in everyway.

When the first 1200 came out it had a massive wieght saving over the previous 1150 - my 2005 GS was not a lot over 200 kg, all the weight has crept back on again and now exceeds the old 1150 GS. The new 1300GS is only 'lighter' than the 1250 GS because they left off the centre stand and made the tank a bit smaller, in reality it is not lighter at all even though it was a big marketting point when it was released.

The teething issues with this bike have been more numerous than previous models, e.g. the central locking pannier fiasco - have owners got the new panniers yet? my friend's panniers didnt work from day one, they would either not lock or unlock and he had to have straps wrapped around them for safety when he did manage to finally open and close them - have they not redesigned from scratch now?

The increase in price is not just inflation, it is the result of upselling loads of extra tech and effectively making it standard (wth the fear of lower residuals if you don't have it).

Loks are subjective of course, but the 1300 just does not look right to my eye , the design team wnet down a very blinkered rabbit hole and got utterly lost in opinion, the GS was bad enough the GSA is just an abomination :)

Actually it is 199 dry, 225 wet. The r80gs was 186 kg so not really a progress now is it?

Sorry which bike is 199kg dry, the 2005 GS?? my comparision was between the 2005GS and the previous 1150GS.

Well I had my first ride on a 1300GSA yesterday, and having done so am 100% convinced I did the right thing when I bought my 1300GS (replaced a 1250GSA, which had replaced a 1200GSA) in March rather than wait for the GSA. I have grown to like being able to put both feet down on the floor, and to moving the bike around easily when off it.

Sure, once on the move it felt fine and lost the excess weight but watch those crash bars, they’re wide). I did feel I was sitting really high on it, and there doesn’t seem as much wind protection as my 1300GS gives me, or my 1250GSA used to give me. I also found the rear of the tank and the seat very wide (obviously compared to my1300GS) which contributed to problem getting feet down on the ground. It did have ASA, but it still felt more of a stretch than even my 1250GSA, although I believe seat height is no higher. Speaking of the seat, this one was more uncomfortable than my standard GS one.

It was a a manual version, and the gearbox/quick shifter was as poor as my 1300GS was at 600 miles, but now I have nearly 8000 miles on my GS the gearbox/quick shifter is better, so I would guess this one will improve too.

So to sum up. It’s huge, a behometh that loses the weight superbly once moving, but cannot hide its sheer size. Tank range looks great, but how many of us really need 300 miles plus range for what we do (I get between 190-220 miles out the standard GS depending upon whether I have full luggage on or not; that suits my bladder/coffee requirements fine). It’s also doesn’t have quirky styling; despite being much better in the flesh than in photos, it is fugly.

Would I change my standard 1300GS for one of these things even if I got offered a good deal? Emphatically not, although I might be tempted by an automatic 1300GS.

For context, I’m 6ft 1, with a 31 inch inside leg, weighing in at 110kg; obviously the dimensions of the bike may suit others much better than they suit me.

I’ve just watched a video where the owner of a new 24 plate 1300GS (now 10 months old with 9k Miles) was offered £8000 less than he bought it for by his local dealer.

Yes folks £8000 depreciation in 10 months.
Ditto. A bikermate of mine bought for £19K second hand in late June and was offered £15K to 'upgrade' to the ASA GSA at the end of October. £1K a month.

On PCP, are you restricted to 6k miles per year ?
Imagine paying 27k for a bike and being told "You can go out any more, Because of the PCP agreement :ronno

Loving the comments here, it does look like it will be pricing itself out of the market for many, Its a little like my hotels and restaurants, You will never see the Riff-Raff propping up the bar !
You're not restricted to 6K per year but you pay more for a higher mileage 'allowance'. If you go over your 'allowance' you pay per mile. I do not and never have had a PCP.

You rode a manual version but it had ASA ? Think you is getting a bit mixed up .
ASA is Automatic Shift Assist .

I would imagine most of us are restricted to what mileage we can do depending on our insurance policy, I can only do 6,000 which is usually enough for me can't imagine what my premium would be if it was 10,000pa

Restrictions ?
Mine is not limited to a mileage on the 1150’s
Must be newer bikes thing?
