Want a quieter exhaust for 2010 GS1200

Feck me, this is a first!! You won't get it because the system is designed to make that noise. Try disconnecting that flappy valve thingy and see if that works:nenau

do you know what i thought i was the only one to get fed up with my standard exhaust noise,my advice?.i fitted a remus hexacone and with the baffel in is much quieter, the akra can with the baffel in is also less noisey than standard.i only fitted the remus because a new one was for sale on here for a really good price.

Hi,
can anyone suggest a quieter exhaust silencer for the 2010 GS than the standard one? I just want a quieter exhaust like the earlier GS 1200s.

yep me too......... wifey found the drone after a while to be too much......... maybe the can was made noisier to drown out engine noises...?

I use the bike mainly two up with intercoms. I've taken off the flapper valve thingy. which hasn't quietened it. I had a full Akrapovic system on, which to be honest sounds about the same. Do you think it would be possible to get an early silencer to fit with some modification? If so which silencer would it best to go for?

Paul

I think the solution might be a full OE system from a pre twin-cam 1200. I'm pretty sure it would fit straight on and of course you would lose the exhaust widget. Get some headers and silencer off here / eBay and it wouldnt cost you much :aidan

I found the same! Your not alone, I have an earlier 1200 (2006) dropped it in for a service, got the new GS for a few hours.

First off I found the noise addictive, always blipping the throttle a lot more. But after a few hours, it lost its fizz and it just became an annoying drone. Felt much happier back on my GS, seats also feel more comfy on earlier models too!

leave the widget in:rob,as i said earlier a akra or remus with the baffel in is a lot quieter than standard:rob

You must be the first person that I here this suggestion :D

Check out www.ADVrider.com aswell

It seems loads of our 'Mercan GS riding cousins' are having the same problems with their noisy twin cam GS's.

I think it sounds great for a BM but it took a wee while to get used to that GS growl under heavy acceleration....I love the popping and banging when you shut the throttle though and it always reminds me of a Spitfire landing.

Funny how my old HP2E sounded like an asthmatic mouse's fart by comparison:nenau
