Hi, Just found your site. Im thinking of buying a 1100gs and would like a bit of advice on what things to lookout for eg common faults and a realistic price guide

Buy the newest one you can afford.

The gearbox was a weak spot on the early 1100. Most are well sorted by now though so you shouldn't have much to worry about.

How much are you looking to spend?

1100

Hi

The 1100 is the value for money model and some say the best

Look for a 97 onwards model as these are sorted, ealier ones had some gearbox issues
Look at the overall condition has the bike been cared for, if its been looked after on the outside chances are it has also had the correct mechanical services atteded to
Check the seal between the gearbox and engine, this is a weak point on all boxer engines including the new 1200 and is expensive to have replaced. If there is a line of oil at the seam the gaskett needs replacing.

Regards

Carlop,

If you register you get access to other parts of the site. One of those areas is the for sale and wanted section, There's been a few 1100s in your price range on there recently :thumb

And I thought I was the only one in nottingham with a bit of taste...

£3.000 should get you a fine example....

Carlop, if the only thing you ever bought of this site was Brian's 1100, you would have done very well. Pay the sponsorship money £12, and see a whole new world open up for you - excellent looking bike - and then send him a private message.
