Being new to the boxer engine, and too idle to read the book, what is the normal method of warming up?

Is it important to get a few bars showing before driving off, or should you drive off, and be gentle for the first few miles?

Thanks

There was a thread a while back (Advrider and cc'd here) which demonstrated the dangers of leaving a running bike unattended while it warmed up.

My preferred method is to warm it up for 1 minute on the stand (or however long it takes me to fasten up my jacket / helmet / gloves) then ride gently until I get one bar on the RID - coincidentally when the bike reaches the edge of the village 30mph limit. Then I thrash the nuts off it :D

The latter

Start up, ride off , take it easy.

I left my bike idle for 5 minutes outside Battleaxe meet in Spetember last year and the header pipes where glowing red hot in the dark.
