Looking for advice on this one. my 1200gs has this annoying occasional issue where the warning light comes on and the break failure light flashes, at the same time the speedo stops working.. This only happens when i have been running the bike, stop and re start the engine. Does not happen all the time thats the frustrating part. There is no change to the breaking system but speedo stops working..... OH and recently neutral has become difficult to engage. hope not linked..

Had the same problem on my 1200 GS TC ( except for the not finding neutral bit )
replaced the rear speed sensor and all is good .... £74 from BMW
also changed the drive shaft oil while I had it in bits

Change the final drive oil and clean the sensor. If the oil is really metallised talk to MikeyBoy or Steptoe.

Thanks guys, i think i have sorted the speedo issue, think a few connections in need of a good clean. The neutral issue is getting worse i think the gear position indicator on blink. anyone point me in right direction here..

cheers..

Sold my TC the other day, lad (a mate ) who bought it took it out for the first time today and the speedo took a wobbly then stopped working . he stopped and restarted the bike and it was fine , hope it just needs the connections cleaned

Gear position potentiometer. Black plastic circular(ish) bolted to rear of gearbox.

Try cleaning wire connection - from LHS bike. Or may have to remove unit to clean/replace.

Plenty of info on here via the search function.

Well got my old TC back into the garage today and checked the speed sensor and thankfully it was totally clean with no swarf on it , no sign of the wiring having been eaten by the rear disc, so far so good .

I traced the wiring back to the connector under the right hand side panel and it didn't appear to be plugged in fully home. the connectors were clean so I bunged in some dielectric grease and snapped it back together and it appears to be okay.

No idea how after four years of being fine the first time the new owner takes it out the connector becomes unplugged !

i also checked through the wiring and found no fault. i have not had any issues again but it is possible that not letting the bike complete all checks before starting could have stopped speedo working. i now don't start bike until checks have completed a bit of a pain if in a hurry. decided to unplug all connections that i could find clean waterproof and re-connect. Fourth BM the newer they get the more problems arise, leave technology out of bikes i say..
