So......... My ESA stopped working for a while today .Went to drop off my paperwork at the accountants and on restarting the bike that horrible little waring triangle came up with ESA at the bottom of the screen .It rode like a pig , no suspension until I stopped , turned it off then on , no difference .Parked it up for 10 minutes then all ok . anyone else had this ? Booked it in for investigation .told it will be looked at at the standard rate per hour , if nothing found just pay the labour  Johnny Boxer will love this :D

I think you're using the wrong dealer, find a new one.

Why do you have to pay labour it's surely a warranty issue? :nenau

Don't worry about Mr Boxer. No one takes him seriously now that we know he drives a super duper Honda Jazz Hybrid in environmentally friendly puke green. ;):D

Mine did exactly the same when I was on a trip down to Garmisch. Like yours, it sorted itself when I stopped for a bit. Bahnstormer had a look at it when I got back but couldn't find a fault, no fault codes were stored or anything. They said they had seen it before on other bikes which just required resetting.

Definitely change your dealer! There is no way you should be charged for them investigating a potentially dangerous fault on a new bike under warranty. I would also let them know you intend to speak to BMW about their attitude and see if that changes their approach.

Good luck with getting it sorted.

WTF

Pay for a bike covered by warranty??

And you bought the bike from them, tell them to go do one

Should have kept the white GSA SE :)

Hmmmmmmm software controlled systems are always a worry - trying to find the bug is almost impossible unless you can find a way of making the problem happen.

Tell the dealer you will be charging them for wasting an hour of your time if they dont find the problem. Cheeky cnuts.

You did the smart thing buying your bike without any fancy gadgets

Time will tell, but I reckon you were the savvy one

There isn't a commercial software system in the World that can be guaranteed to be bug free. I always go for the simplest solution if possible - I don't have modes, traction control, computer controlled suspension but have no choice about the 'fly by wire' throttle.

You were probably talking to a numpty that didn't understand your bike was under warranty. Try again.

Of course, no doubt we'll be commenting on your 'keyless' woes on 6-8 weeks too :)

BTW - do you agree with being charged an hours labour to examine a phantom ESA fault ??

Keyless woes, you say?:P

I wouldn't pay a penny to investigate an issue with a bike under warranty, and would report the dealer to HQ if they didn't back down.:rob

As Windy says, the muppet on the phone probably didn't realise the bike is under warranty.

Are you sure about that?
I thought all LC GS had road and rain mode, also if you have ABS you have Traction control.

I will look into the charge as I have a good relationship with the dealer and the chap I spoke to was new .It seemed odd .The bike has not shown the fault again .I had it once before with the abs after starting it when it was still running its start up checks .I guess there are a lot of electronics on these bikes for all the fancy functions. They are also the bikes Achilles heal

As far as I am aware if you buy the standard bike you do not get the mode options, also ABS is anti skid braking system, nothing what so ever to do with traction control. one stops the wheels skidding under braking, the other stops the wheels spining under hard acceleration or damp slidy conditions.

Yes the first basic 2013 WCs did NOT have modes, so all I have is ABS and fly by wire throttle, no traction control.

Thanks for the explanation of how you think it works, both systems use the same wheel speed sensors and on later models ABS and TC are standard.

Standard GS comes with "Rain and Road Riding Modes" acording to this - http://www.bmw-information.com/dg/wn/dld/bmwm/a9522548/digi-pdf1.pdf

That's what I thought :nenau

Thanks for the enlightenment.
