Hi all,

2000 miles on the new bike and still loving every minute.

Do have a problem?? Out for a run yesterday and after stopping at a mates for a brew I pulled away and got a brake warning. Red triangle and fast flashing 'brake failure' sign. Brakes seemed ok, good lever etc. Called the dealer and i am taking in today for them to check out.
Well started her up this morning and guess what? Those lights go out as they are supposed to but the warning triangle is on (not flashing just on all the time). I am on reserve but I thought that the triangle should flash? Any ideas?

Still taking it to dealer anyway as that's what they are for

cheers
TT

yellow traingle lit whilst on reserve sounds normal enough to me...

as for the mystery red, well, get the dealer to hook it up to the GT1 and check the fault memory to see if anything irregular happened... in my experience the ECU can sometimes detect if the bike's feeling neglected and it can throw you a false red triangle just to get you to pay more attention to it... some kind of "virtual wife" code built into the CANBUS system...

:beerjug:

On reserve, a steady yellow warning is normal.

A red warning and a brake failure flashing at 4Hz means servo failure, i think. Definitely something to get checked out. Although if the servos are working fine, it could just be a sensor glitch.

Check that you don't touch the brakes for a couple of seconds after turning the ignition on - while the brake failure light is flashing rapidly. Once the rapid flashing stops the servos have initialised and you can use the brakes.

Cheers guys,

well half way up the road to the dealers the red lights are back!! And the brakes are a bit spongy too  Left it with them so hopefully they will have it sorted upon my return to tera firma!!

Yes I refuelled and the yellow light went out, only to be replaced by the red one a few miles up the road. Silly electronics.

I had a similar problem on mine at 1100 miles - dealer changed a brake modulator. Fairly large hydraulic lump that took 6 hours to change. The dealer said they had replaced three of them in the last five weeks. Hope your problem is something more minor.

the brake modulator on my gs12 was also changed recently at 6000 as the red brake warning light was staying on along with a servo sounding whine, but then the next time you would fire her up it would be fine, then it would be faulty again but since coming out of the garage its been fine. The engine to gearbox seal was also replaced as that was leaking.
Do the brakes need any special bleeding technique as they are not so sharp since coming out of garage and maybe theres still some air in the system??

I have to admit that the brakes on mine don't feel as good after coming out from the modulator change. I put it down to the fact that I was riding an 1150R the dealer lent me while my GS was in the shop and was misremembering what the GS's brakes were like. The 1150R didn't have ABS and yet the brakes felt more powerful on it than on the GS when I got it back. I know that they programme the modulator - wonder if the different brake response is due to different software loaded?

Just off the phone with dealer and indeed the brake modulator is the culprit. Has been orderded and will be with them tomorrow so with any luck my pride and joy will be back on the road by Friday.

Don't want to be the old profit of doom, but just over a week after having had the brake modulator changed and the defect is back!

I wouldn't advise trying to bleed the brake servo modulator or calipers unless you know what you are doing. I tried it on a mates 1150Adv and emptied the servo units internal reservoir (didn't even know it had one) resulting in a recovery to the dealers and a bill to refill and bleed the system with their own dedicated brake filling rig. Ooops. :o
