Warning - Stolen Clocks (Again)

I would use a bike cover if I had to leave it anywhere like that... this is such a simple and effective solution but it's often overlooked, which is exactly the effect you want with a motorbike cover!

If someone wants your clock - they will have it. What Cymarc brace does is slowing them down, unless they come prepared and have metal cutting scissors, which are likely to damage clocks.

If you check my recent posts, I did install anit theft brace and dismantled my bike to check how easy it is to take them away, and now I know it takes just about 10-15 seconds if circlip is positioned upright. There is only 1 circlip securing clocks to bike, as other 2 lugs are just sliding into the rubber grommet.
You can either change circlip to non standard one and/or buy Cymarc's brace.

As for headlights - make sure you change original bolts to non standard ones. ideally think about somethig to obscure access from the side. There are only 2 of them and plastic lugs which are holding LED to the bike. It is possible that they can take 2 bolts and them snap lugs to quickly remove headlight from its position. When I was doing it I dismantled pretty much all plastic bits in the front to get to LED as I didn't want to snap them, but now I know that it can be done without beak and side panels and tank cover removed.

Interesting that the light for sale on Ebay has the bottom lugs broken...wonder how that happened (of course the seller may be unaware of the origin) !! I understand that a new version of smart water is being launched soon which is impossible to remove....may slow down the people fencing the stuff!

Quite a few sets of clocks with MPH displays available on eBay from Lithuania.

Funny as I thought Johnny Foreigner used KPH ??

I asked this seller about missing lugs...he replied that

the light was purchased in a shop stock clearance and we dont know why there broken but they are,
that's why we said there broken or we couldn't sell it as un broken can we....

Yeah..right!

Clocks stolen

I was thinking having fitted the Cymarc brace, how to make the bolts secure,
The idea I intend to try is to turn some metal caps out of aluminium or stainless,
These will be a tight fit over the Allen bolt heads and glued in place
which will hopefully have the thief confused enough to walk away,
I don't see any need to remove the clocks or headlamp in normal use so the extra effort required to remove may be of benefit against the risk,

But that doesn't stop them buying UK bikes, breaking them, and selling the parts back to us as 'spares'.

Johnnie Foreigner never buys anything. They always steal it. I blame the EU and Mrs Thatcher.... Oh, and that money grabbing super leech multi-national BMW's team of suited bean counters, who are German! Ripping off the British biker with substandard goods, not fit for purpose. Those bikes could have been half way around the world on an adventure! What then? It's outrageously piss boiling, so my mum says.

M6x20mm are screws holding headlight in case anyone goes shopping for secure ones.

Trouble with security screws nowadays is that almost every tool is made with the security screw in mind, especially torx.
The only ones that are out of the ordinary are the pig snout/two hole type, but even these could be defeated by a good pair of needle nose pliers.
A bit of plastic padding metal in the ends of the originals could be just as effective, you'd need a dentists pick to clear out the filler if you ever needed to get them out in the future.

I suspect every commercial security device can be beaten by a determined thief under the right circumstances. The idea is to make it more difficult and thereby 'encourage' the thief to move on to the next bike. I'll definitely be doing all I can to redress the odds back in my favour by installing any anti-theft devices I can, including bolts.

You're welcome to park your unprotected bike next to mine?

An alternative solution to the expensive clock surround bracket.
Take one Torx T10 head screw, approx 3mm dia thread, 25mm long

Take one Domed Mirror screw cap, drill a 2.5mm hole in it.

Screw into cap.

Drill (carefully!) a 2.5mm hole in the centre of the post on the back of the clocks where the Circlip goes.

Leave the circlip with the open end upwards and screw the cap assembly into the hole.

It is now impossible to remove the circlip without removing the screen and the air deflector and removing the screw first.
Certainly more than a minute to do.
