I have got my bike a 1150 gsa se in at astle bmw for a 12000 service and to claim for corroded parts ,mainly the rear wheel hub blistered around the spoke nipples quite badly and the filler neck, I have been advised that the wheels are rarely replaced as lack of care can be contributory?
As i bought the bike used i am stuck with the task of convincing them as the front wheel is ok even the fork bridge, i just thought the warranty would cover it and was suprised by the maybe approach , the usual comparisons to my previous jap bikes were also voiced,I like my bikes clean and tidy so any advice on this long running issue will be appreceated.

If it’s still in warranty, replacing the fork bridge should not be problem as they are a known problem. As for the rest of the corrosion, that is probably a matter for negotiation, especially as it was a used bike. If you have a regular cleaning routine I can understand your frustration with their response. Unfortunately the build quality as you have probably discerned from trawling the site does not match the reputation gained from earlier models.

Just a personal point of view of course, but these things are not made for polishing, if you are to use regularly, particularly all the year round, expect paint to flake from the front engine casing and well just about anywhere else when chipped. If you are to keep it, might be idea to invest in a stainless steel fastener set at least they won’t rust!

Good luck with your dealer.
