Will the new 2013 12GS come with a 2 or 3 year warranty?

Honda now offer 3 years as standard on bikes as do most car manufacturers

Stateside 3 years has been offered for a while now

Come on BMW GB, let's have 3 years warranty & European breakdown recovery

Corr, JB, the biggest poster so far in the new WC section...what colour have you ordered Johnny ? :aidan

3 Year warranty with European breakdown cover and 12000 mile service intervals would be better :thumb2

I see Suzuki now give a three year warranty on their larger capacity bikes. Hope this breaks ranks of the major manufacturers and they follow Suzuki's example.

Jeez!!!

No-ones actually got one and hot topic is warranty and breakdown cover!

FFS go buy a Honda! then you needn't worry.

Isn't this for a limited time and based on you taking out Suzuki's own finance?

i agree with JB. bmw really should include a 3 year warranty.

A friend of mine in California bought a new R1200 GS Rallye recently. By the time he'd finished negotiating the deal, he'd also bought himself 7 years of warranty.

Blimey Mike .... seven year warranty on a 1200

That'll be a dealer thing, and dealers giving warranty like that wont be around in seven years :nenau

:beerjug:

Edit ... just re read "bought himself a seven year warranty" How much did that cost then?

Established San Francisco Bay Area BMW dealer. He didn't pay extra - they added 4 years dealership warranty to the 3 years BMW factory warranty that comes as standard in the USA, as part of the deal that he negotiated on the bike.

I don't think it's that uncommon over there. I remember a couple of years ago, looking at a pre-facelift GS that he'd bought to replace his '05 that he wrote off and pointing out that the "new" one was showing all the signs of a leaking rear crankshaft oil-seal. He said he'd get it fixed under warranty and shortly thereafter it was in San Jose BMW being repaired.

Not a "hot topic" just a topic :rob and why would that make you go and buy an overweight, Lardy and bland motorcycle:nenau

If you're that worried about reliability, which you must be to be discussing warranty, then you really should consider an overweight, Lardy and bland motorcycle.

Should rename this forum "Paranoid GSers". It hasn't turned a wheel yet!

This'll get you RTW without worrying about warranty

It's a good idea from a dealers standpoint as it will no doubt tie the customer in to the dealership for servicing for the next 7 years as part of the T&C's of the warranty and will probably not be transferable to the next owner/keeper

If the Yanks can have 3 year manufacturers warranty then why not the ROTW? :nenau

I don't think I've mentioned anywhere that I'm worried about warranty :nenau. My GS is two and a half years old with 30k on it and it has been great, a few minor issues sorted with no problems, But 30k is the average mileage of a 12 year old Jap bike.:blast I have had at least as many issues on Jap bikes, more in some cases. Please don't think I dislike Jap stuff because that's not true. But in general BMW's are bought to do far greater mileages than the jap stuff.:thumb
