Just checked my oil and it,s a milk choc brown.Haven't lost coolant so at a dead loss as to where the water is coming from? Checked breather hoses as we have had loads of rain here recently so thought it might have entered that way but can't find any thing obvious.
Hope someone has an idea as I don't want to cause loads of damage .

If you've not lost any coolant don't worry too much. I think theses engines are over cooled, especially at this time of the year. My 2007 Xcountry always has a white mayonnaise kinda sludge round the filler neck of the oil tank. I wipe it out or go and give it a rait good thrashing .... that cures it

It's condensation in the oil from short journeys,

Wipe it out and just change the oil at the correct intervals. . It's fine;)

+1 to that.
First time I saw the white sludge I thought head gasket had gone.
Go for a good ride and get the engine up to top temp.

Cheers Dave.

before you convince yourself you havnt lost coolant, double check the level at the radiator not just the expansion tank.
as others have said, slight emulsification is normal at this time of year.
but you suggest the oil is chocolate brown which would suggest to me that the bike has either headgasket or water pump issues and due to the leak the coolant system is not drawing coolant back from the reservoir.further investigation may be required before giving the bike the all clear.:thumb2

Thanks for all the input will check rad level tomorrow it only does a 4mile journey each way to work so I don't think it is getting up to max temp.I hope it is this simple .I have only had the fan running once in all the time I've had it (stuck in snotty mud )

Quite true of course, but really the system is such that if there is any water loss from the main cooling system that in the header tank will be drawn into the system ...

Never hurts to check though ....

Engine COLD of course

Good head of coolant in the header tank?

Left hand side panel off. Clamp off the hose down from the header tank to the radiator (or the next step will empty it)

Take off the radiator top cap ... It should be full to brimming. Even so, top up until it is full to the very very top, replace the cap, and in doing so will probably displace a little water ... no probs. Make sure the cap is tightened fully!

Any sign if oil in the water? Often, any loss of water in to the oil will cross contaminate ... but not always

Ride and enjoy :thumb

Here you see Micky Mod Mk II used for winter running. Whole engine FS365'd then the mod covers up the holes in the front of the sumpguard and the front of the engine is much better protected ... and not as cooled ;)

Also, the neck of the oil tank is long and in the cooling air stream, hence the emulsified oil in there, maybe consider insulating it?

Hope this helps

Checked water no loss in rad or header tank so must be condensation I know short trips aren't helping thanks for all replies.
