While cleaning the bike at the weekend, disturbed some mud that had been blocking one of the drain holes in the plastic box the ECU is mounted in below the front seat. Must have been a fair amt of water in there took a few seconds to drain away.
So I removed the seat, unshipped the ECU from its rubber mounts, moved it to one side & cleaned out all the mud & moisture that remained followed by a blast of wd40 & a blow dry!
So BEWARE, may be worth checking yours.
The rear ECU mount when removed reveals a hole straight through the mud guard, which could perhaps be the source of the water ingress.
New Mudsling on the way.

You missed it JJH. As We're posting in the 1200 GS WC threads, there may be a tiny clue there!
It's a 2013 GS WC, guessing the GSA will be similar.

Ok I just look at everything as get latest posts. I know it's sad. JJH

What is the "black box" under the pillion seat, referred to by the OP as an ECU? What does it do?

The OP didnt refer to the one under the passenger seat, I am talking about the ECU under the front seat. I think the one under the rear seat is the receiver for the tyre pressure sensor?

I beg to differ. He mentions 2 x ecu's. Read the OP again.
