Watercooled 1200 GS

I like it :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

It's weird.

Looks like the whole engine has been flipped end to end - bellhousing where the front cover used to be and vice versa (oil sightglass on the 'wrong' side etc). Even the heads are facing the 'wrong' way.

I'd say that engine looks very much like a development mule and quite a long way from production ready.

Looks to me like the main crank cases are sand cast which is usually pre production due to cost. Looks wise, its not a huge departure from what we have now if you ignore the tape and measurement bars. Clocks look different but it could just be a big flat screen to monitor everything and not what you will get in production. On the other hand it could be a big flat LCD screen that has built in GPS and all the other gizmo's you could show on one. Now let the rumours begin LOL. Difficult to see via the pic but I would have a punt at it being throttle by wire as well which would make proper cruise control a cheap option. No servo or vacuum plunger to incorporate.

From what I can see in the picture I spotted that

1. The complete F/D hub seems redesigned and obviously a lot bigger.
2. The shaft single arm seems completed isolated from the environment like the Honda’s and MotoGuzzi’s.
3. Rear suspension changed angle and arm….it seems like there is no para-lever.
4. Also it seems that tele-lever have substituted by USD.

I hope they used a conventional multi-friction plate clutch instead of the stupid single plate dry clutch.

The bike looks like Super Tenerre 1200.

I wonder whether they have decided to use the K series shaft drive to make the parts common. You can see the two pivots through the back wheel so it must be a paralever.

The telelever arm is right where the radiator needs to be, so it has to go. USD forks are fine on the HP2 but it's quite a step to ditch the telelever. Outwardly you can hardly see the telelever on the current bike and the magazine test reports almost never call it a plus.

The display is bound to go more digital in a similar way to the Multistrada, apart from anything else, it's cheaper to make.

Is definitely paralever you can see the bearing. Not sure about the front but it looks to me like fake up side down with the front guards, they also look too close to allow the top to slide by. I hope so anyway because the telelever is what made the bike for me. As said, it would be a huge step backwards to go to conventional forks, up side down or not.

I have just been looking at another photo and it appears to show the telelever mounting on the engine so it looks like it's still there.:thumb2

Yep - looks to me like it's still got the telelever / paralever suspension - the rads appear to be tucked up above the wishbone.

Exhaust on the other side means those with system cases will need new 'uns. I've got system cases. Bugger.

I have it from a very reliable source that the engine is finished. It could have been available for 2012 but it is the rest of the bike that is lagging behind and the reason we've got to wait for 2013.

I guess BMW will throw some teasers at the press in the New Year to try and spoil sales of other marques and try to keep customers loyal to the marque until 2013. Looking at the dreadful colour schemes they've come up with for GSA's and RT's for next year they need to do something to restore confidence!:augie

I bet they will releaswe the bike for 2012 and let the prime dosh paying customers do the rest of the development. Usual BMW of late in other words.

Great concepts, sh*te execution. They are the new Ducatis fo the world.

I m not touching any remotely new BM with a bargepole.

Christ guys give them a chance huh? The bike isn't in production yet so any or all bodywork could change. For all we know the whole frame could just be a mule testbed to test the engine hence the 2013 release. And why dont we let them finish it before we start slagging it off on reliability.

amen to that:thumb

With all the 1200's troubles of Final Drives, EWS Rings and Fuel Pump Controllers and the rather shite and slow response to these issues during 7 years of production I would certainly not give BMW the benefit of the doubt.

I hope it does keep the Telever as I was very sceptical after years of press monkeys telling it how they thought it should be, and I really like the front end (quite rare for me on any bike)

The new bike is great news IMHO because it gives the 2010's a couple of years to prove they are fairly reliable before the BMW test team (sorry I mean devoted customers) trade them in for the new WC motor, hopefully leaving a load of twin cam bargains for me to pick through.
