Wear 'n' Tear or Warranty Claim?

My bike has this corrosion problem. Its due to go in for a replacement engine this week. However my dealer told me I have to pay 50% of the labour charges (approx £210) as the bike is out of warranty. Anyone else had to pay this?

What about the new 600 mile service?

I think I am correct in saying my bike has a lighter flywheel as its an early bike. Will the new engine be the same or the heavier one?

Finally will having a new engine affect resale values?

TIA

1- you will get heavy flywheel engine, i could tell the difference regarding how the engine spun up between my original and heavy flywheel engine.

2- A contribution isn't a bad thing because it will give you an additional 24 months warranty, something you don't get if the bike was in warranty.

I had to pay for some of the labour when my K1200S had its clutch pack changed outside warranty. £210 doesn't seem too bad for a new engine when they could have refused the claim completely, although I do wonder if it's the dealer, not BMW, wanting to make a quick buck.....

The new engine in mine isn't quite as revvy/responsive as the old one, but it's more refined and has a better gearbox. The paint finish is much better too. The 600 mile oil change was free of charge at Allan Jefferies.

I would hope the new engine has increased the value as it's done 13k miles less than the old one.

Interesting, I've been told I have to pay for the 600 mile run in service, my engine is being changed next week. How close to needing a service was your bike when the engine was replaced?

I think it's irrelevant how close your bike is to a service. I got my whole engine, swing arm and final drive replaced at about 3300 miles because of small white spots on the paintwork. When it was completed, and the 600 mile service for the new engine was due and done, I got my wallet out to pay, but the service guy at Allan Jeffries said no, it's free because it's not your fault the engine needed changing.

It was under warranty though at the time.

I have been told BMW wont cover the cost of the running in service. Bike is still under warranty, just, it runs out in July. Am due a 6000 mile service in 300 miles according to the indicator and thought that's why I'm being asked to pay. Wonder if I'm subject to a spot of opportunism. I would be suppressed I've always been very well looked after by the dealer in the past.

Any body else not been charged for the running in service after an engine replacement? Is it just Allen Jeffries that doesn't charge?

I've just paid £83 pounds for oil and coolant in my new replacement engine. Bike is 3 years old. Have been told I will have to pay for its oil &filter 600 run in service. Bike is due it's main service in September!
