I wonder if anyone here has ridden the BMW GSA-TE, Ducati MTS or DVT and the KTM SA in heavy rain and know which gives the best protection.

Cheers

BMW GSA-TE

Very pleased with the over all protection from the elements during inclement weather. Strong gusts can be somewhat focussing!

Sorry, not ridden the other bikes.

I have ridden a push bike in the rain. With some authority, I can give it 0/10 for the protection it offers from the elements.

I shall watch how this (maybe somewhat subjective) thread develops with keen anticipation. It will be like 'Top Trumps' but without the excitement of the cards.

I realised that most will probably just say the bike they have is best, but I thought it was worth a punt and have also put the same post on the ducati forum.

I have ridden all three but only the MTS in the wet, a friend with a GSA says he only gets wet below the knee, which seems hard to believe.

The answer lies within your grasp...

"Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things."
"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

BMW RT is best, try the airhead section for feedback on a R80RT. Reported to be 10 times better than a Boris bike. The Hexhead GSA has better weather protection than the LC.

Yes, I can say from personal experience it'd be the GSA LC 1200 that'd keep you driest from all three. Ridden through some major rainstorms on the GSA LC 1200 and stayed astonishingly dry. GSA does tend to "push" the wind/rain around and behind you.

Road speed was generally consistently over 60 mph on a main straight road.... (and with screen in uppermost position).

I had a Multistrada and now have a GSA LC, for me it's the GSA easy.

Went on a three day trip to Devon in October and the ride down the A303 was pissing down, however with the screen adjusted up, the engine protection, and your legs tucked behind the GSA tank you are not going to get any better than that.

One gripe I do have is the hand guards are a bit skimpy, the previous model GSA had much bigger hand guards which protected well against rain and wind, probably will get some extenders this year.

I also find that when adjusting the screen I don't raise it to the highest level, for me 5'10" tall it is best about 80% up as the screen is at its steepest angle at that point, after that it goes backwards and slopes back (that's the geek in me!)

I found when you raised the screen on the Multistrada you get better protection around the head but a lot more wind around the waist area.

Anyway, that's my thoughts....:nenau

Perhaps you should look at getting some decent riding gear, then you can ride whatever bike you like without compromise.

I have experienced very heavy rain on both thr gsa Tc and the lc and in my opinion I can say without dought that the Tc is by a long shot better at keeping the rain off you I tried to set the small screen on the lc and all I could do was focus the rain directly onto my upper body where as the Tc is great at pushing it above your head

I have owned a Multisrada, GSA TC and currently have a GSA LC. Without doubt, both BMW's offer far better protection from the elements than the Ducati, with the TC better than the LC.

My old 1150 GS was crap, in the rain I got off dripping like a fucked fridge. The new LC GSA is way better, like a wee cocoon

I wear a Klim Badlands Pro or Aerostsitch Roadcrafter, previously I had a Rukka before. Not sure what is likely to be better

Very nice gear, you shouldn't get very wet wearing the Pro-shell.

Incidentally how do you rate the Klim compared to the Rukka?
