...a friend with a GSA says he only gets wet below the knee, which seems hard to believe.

I wonder if anyone here has ridden the BMW GSA-TE, Ducati MTS or DVT and the KTM SA in heavy rain and know which gives the best protection.

Perhaps you should look at getting some decent riding gear, then you can ride whatever bike you like without compromise.
